You know, this is shaping up to be a lot like the escape velocity series. By the way, those are awsome games.

Well, this thread seems to have been dropped a bit so I thought I'd bring it back momentarily with a few questions: A) Will there be a better save game system? i.e. You can save whenever you want to. B) Will it be easyier to sneak around? C) Is there going to be a set number of people who can be in you're "party"? i.e. Set number of allies you can have at once?

I'd also like to bring focus back to the important issue of open-ended gameplay, random encounters (easy enough, right?) and the ability to keep playing after the game's over.

Me likes sneaking. More sneaking!
Stealth kills!

Random encounters must die.

'Nuff said.

Seriously, where's the stealth in that?

I don't mean random encounters like RPGs have. I mean like, an infinite amount of fights without having to program an infinite number of scenarios.

That has nothing to do with random encounters however.

It has everything to do with random encounters.

You merely interpreted it to mean "randomly-occuring" and not "randomly-generated".

Random encounters mean that you are walking along "Lalalala, *Aaagh!* (Screen goes weird) A monster out of no where! Lets kill it and get XP!"
A randomly generated fight is different.

Wrong. That's simply how you interpreted it. That'is where the confusion came from.

The term 'random encounters' come from pencil and paper RPGs, not japanese style video game RPGs.

"Random encounters mean that you are walking along "Lalalala, *Aaagh!* (Screen goes weird) A monster out of no where! Lets kill it and get XP!""

Tell me, how is this supposed to happen in a pencil and paper RPG? It can't. This is why Vib Rib is correct.

What's the diffrince?

Shorthand, random occurance (like EP was talking about) is a battle that happens spontaneously and unannounced at random times. A random generation means that the internal components of a battle -- the enemies you face, their skill, their weapons, etc. -- will be determined randomly.

this discussion is useless... as long as you guys see what he meant, and understand it, there's no need for half-arsed flaming around.

But, yeah, I'd also like to (of course) meet random enemies at random places in the fields. (so that the areas never goes empty for stuff to do)

also, you could make the enemies harder to beat by looking at the game time? :P *plays for 50 hours without meeting an enemy... meets an enemy... enemy hits... instant death!*
