Overgrowth isn't Lugaru 2?
Overgrowth isn't Lugaru 2?
Hi, I don't know that much about Overgrowth, but from what I've seen, it's not clear to me what it is besides Lugaru with better graphics, a couple new character types and different scenarios. Yet they chose to call it Overgrowth instead of Lugaru 2. I am just wondering what the difference is. How is Overgrowth new or different than Lugaru, and why not just call it Lugaru 2?

1. Overgrowth sounds more awesome
2. They said so
3. It's a different time period
4. ALL NEW MAP EDITOR THAT IS AWESOMESAUCE
5. The Whaleman
6. Ummm...they said so?

Probably the same reason why "Lord of the Rings" isn't called "The Hobbit 2"

Also, I think in the alpha titles it actually calls it lugaru 2 (at the top of the window the game is in)
but I may be mistaken as I haven't been able to download more than two of them ;_;

It's not very creative if you just shove a 2 at the end of the name.
Re: Overgrowth isn't Lugaru 2?
Overgrowth is a sequel to Lugaru, and the executable of the Overgrowth alphas was called "lugaru2.exe" for a long time. I'm not sure of all the reasons, but I believe I know one of them.
If you go to the very beginning of the blog, you'll find posts about a project and/or engine called "Lugaru 2". "Lugaru 2" had characters running around years ago. That project was scrapped and the work began again from scratch, with an all-new engine and a team, and the new project was renamed "Overgrowth" to make it easier to distinguish between the two.

I think one of the main reasons is to differentiate Overgrowth from Lugaru, since Overgrowth is being made a lot more professionally than Lugaru was in its day.

The name Overgrowth also gives a better feel of the world they are creating for the game.
- The literal plant overgrowth.
Many animals have become overgrown.
Their absolutely awesome ninja skills have overgrown.
Causing their already normal awesomeness to overgrow even more.
Whaleman is overgrown.

- Improved physics engine
New graphics
Greater modding capabilities/more user-friendly modding tools
Skeletal models with higher complexity
Over 9 times as many weapons as in Lugaru
Full development team instead of a single high-school programmer
Deeper/longer storyline

Re: Overgrowth isn't Lugaru 2?
I think I remember reading somewhere that part of why it was renamed was because of the fact that naming it Lugaru 2 would alienate the people who hadn't played the first one, and also so that the first Lugaru would be more of a proof of concept than a full fledged predecessor to Overgrowth.

I just hope this doesn't turn into some sort of Duke Nukem saga...
