Phoenix Engine 8-23-05 Weapon Reflections
Re: Phoenix Engine 8-23-05 Weapon Reflections
Man, you just can't win. Every few day there are posts complaining about how they are going to have to buy a new computer to play L2. Now you are complaining that the weapon model is not high enough detail...Lugaruman100 wrote:The swords look allright when it comes to reflection, but why did you desided to create a low polygon sword? Or is this weapon going to be redesigned near lugaru 2's release?David wrote:The Phoenix engine now supports a form of gloss map, which allows us to modulate the reflectivity of surfaces using the alpha channel of the texture. This means that we can easily render models that reflect light differently from different areas.

You got a good point there. After thinking about it, it's a good idea with going with a low poly sword since there are limits to what you can do with computers now at days.David wrote:Because it is in-game, and I dont want to demolish the framerate with a 10,000 polygon sword...
I was suggesting not complaining.Jeff wrote:Now you are complaining that the weapon model is not high enough detail...
Do you really think you are going to notice the poly count(which is actually pretty high) of that sword during combat in the game?
- It's going to be moving fast.
Will probably have motion blur.
You are going to be watching what the sword is doing, not counting vertices.
The sword is looking great, but, perhaps, some polygon rearranging - making the handle even more low-poly and the adding some polygons to the blade could make it look even better... Because the player will be seeing the blade very often, and the handle... notzip wrote: Lugaru 1 had a even lower poly sword, but it was textured nicely and moving fast, and the mind has other things to worry about than the swords edge showing a segment now and then.
If a knife, then a large one. The way the weapon is shaped (distribution of weight, form of the handle), it suggests that it rather be used to cut with momentum (vulgo: hack), not to fence or slice/slash. But that's just what I think.Nuky wrote:Was I the only one thinking that that sword looked like a knife, not thinking of the size?
Oh, right, I join the chorus: Great! I will definitely be buying L2 (along with a new box'o'apples).
