StuffIt problems...

Post by SilverWolfSkye » Fri Dec 16, 2005 6:02 pm

Ok I got the Lugaru demo from a friend and it was awsome, so I wanted to check out some of WolfFire's other games, so I downloaded them all but I couldn't open the files, because I needed StuffIt.
I downloaded StuffIt and I have no idea what to do or how it works.
Could you tell me how to fix it so I can play their games?

I have an old Macintosh Classic that I installed stuffit onto. As far as I remember, once its installed, all you have to do is drag the file onto the stuffit icon. Then it begins the process. I don't have a newer mac, so I don't know if it would be the same for you. I sure wish I did though. :( Would love to try out Lightning's Shadow and GLFighters.

Do you have a Mac or PC? Most Wolfire games prior to Lugaru are Mac only.

Btw, has anyone else noticed how crappy Stuffit is? I was trying to download it the other day and their site is a crapfest.

It's not just the company (formerly AladdinSys, now Allume Systems), it's the software, too...

Stuffit (Lite, Standard... haven't got Deluxe) quality has been in decline since about version 6. I don't know exactly what's causing it (I don't do much reverse engineering), but I know the code is suboptimal, it's so obvious.

However, for .sit files, there is no viable alternative on the mac, or at least none that I have found to date (using versiontracker). If someone could help me out on this, I'd be glad.

The unarchiving app (BOMArchivehelper.app) included with every newer Mac OS X (starting from ver10.3, I think) is a great thing though; small, inconspicuous, and, most importantly: it works.

There are alternatives for mac, .zip, .rar(http://unrarx.sourceforge.net).

(or you could just use unzip for those gnu/linux geeks out there)
