FanArt Character Turtle dude

Post by nextbam » Mon Feb 14, 2011 3:55 pm

hi there!
i thought of making an ingame fanart character for overgrowth.
As species i chose a turtle. My ambition is to make him NOT Ninja Turtle like if thats even possible as humanoid turtle ? but anyway i got a basemesh blockout so far and some reference....

Don't feel like you need to rush it or anything just to get on OGW, there's a new episode of OGW every week so it doesn't matter when you do it since it'll get shown regardless. :)

I did a ninja turtle mesh a year or something ago, but I still haven't textured him. I've started thinking that ninja turtles might not be that interesting, after all. Have you thought about a color scheme yet? I was thinking of going away from the green and instead doing something with dry yellowish browns, a turtle that'd fit a bleached desert landscape. Some of your references images have some of the colours I was thinking of, and if you're going that direction I guess I could then stick to my original plan and make a more traditional green ninja turtle.

na i havnt thought of anycolor stuff right now, current ones are just placeholder to see the different parts of the model... but im definitely not going to make it hardcore saturated green... more a dense yellowish greenish brownish mixture......i think... but that comes when im there. i like more the step by step approach as im not really workin with a concept here...trial and error is my friend most time i do art... i just see what works best..

but thx for the input :)

BTW, avoid pants at all costs. Do they go over the shell? Under it? Around it? It always looks silly. Try to design around that: robes, belts, trenchcoats, coats, capes, hats etc all work fine.

My first thought when I preordered overgrowth was-= I want to be a turtle... Henceforth the Avy, henceforth this thread popping out of the forum like it had neon bordering,

Oolong- the turtle in my avy may be a source of inspiration for you, it certainly was the character I pictured in-game pretty much incarnate,

Obviously plagiarism is wrong and yada yada yada, you heard it all before.
Watching this with great interest.

Nice! I'll be interested in seeing what you're going to do with the shield in the back.

Belts are for either holding the pants up (his magical pants go under his shell), or for holding items. In theory, he could have some sort of shell piercings for carrying stuff. If he won't have those, he needs some sort of belt or bucket or bag for carrying stuff.

Image

I did this little "consept" about the belt thing and what the belt could look like, well that crappy drawing ain't gonna help too much.

Maybe you should add some sort of suspenders to keep the belt up..?
