[Rant] Right, now I now there's an official thread for the suggestions but I'm just gonna post a bunch of stuff here.
Weapons
Katana: Longer and faster then sword
Mace: The kind that's a spiked hammer
Mace-Flail: Spiked ball and chain
Crossbow: Aiming system needed, but worth it.
Shuriken: Knives are a bit meh as far as throwing ability goes, why not some ninja stars
Tools
Rope: Put in a ragdoll engine and some loose rope and you can have a lot of fun. This could make whips possible too.
Scale: Different kinds of arrows for the cross bow. One has a harpoon type shaft and point with a rope. Shoot it over a wall and then pull it back to catch onto something and run up the wall.
[HUGE-RANT]
ARROWS + BOW. Different types, do want. Here's a few suggestions to start with. I already mentioned the scaling one.
Roped Arrow - Rope tied around shaft of two arrows. First is in crossbow, second in quiver. Shoot first to penetrate object/enemy. Shoot second to penetrate another. Imagine shooting one of these through the chest of a rabbit and killing him, then being able to hang his body from a tree or just shooting it and propelling him somewhere. Shoot the first arrow into a tree and fire the second at an enemy to pin them down at a position. Create traps by weaving webs of rope through this method.
Fire Arrow: An arrow with oil at the end that is light alight with a small torch or fire nearby. Imagine using the rope with this! Light a tree with the first and drag an enemy into it with the second! Use it to light traps you've set with the rope and create flaming webs!
Poison Arrow: A venom arrow. Very rare, shoot any enemy with it and they're guaranteed to die from the wound.
ROPE: This in itself would be amazing. Use tension and physic placements to create intricate designs and architectures. I'm gonna have to stop ranting here before my keyboard gets broken

That was a good read, Ultimatum.
I found something cool though
As far as I'm concerned, Snape just isn't Magnificent. I mean, if he was? It would have unfolded that he secretly manipulated Dumbledore to kill himself, faked his death, guilt-tripped Harry into getting himself killed via bogus memories, and reappeared just as Voldemort was celebrating to Avara Kedavra his butt to Hell. Then he would have coolly regarded Harry's corpse and spat "it was fun while it lasted, Potter" from the side of his mouth, only to proceed to recycle Harry's corpse into potion ingredients, use an improved version of the Polyjuice Potion to permanently take Harry's shape, and return as a hero to make mad, passionate love to Ginny, Hermione and Luna all three at once while secretly putting forth his plans to conquer the world.

Gah...
Katanas are not longer than most European swords; the blade is about two feet and the tsuka one. And they're not that light without a bo-hi. And they really suck if they're not differentially hardened. And folded. And made at the right time of year. With
tamahagane.
What makes a katana slightly faster is the fact that the fulcrum or pivot point is closer to the handle than on a European sword.
Most of the mysticism that surrounds the katana is due to ancient Japanese legends where lone samurai took down armies single-handedly with swords made by one famous smith or another. There's evidence to support that many of these myths were merely stories spread by descendants of these smiths to get their swords commissioned by the shogun.
Shuriken are really, really inaccurate. Real ninjas of the time used kunai - short knives with a ring at the end. Some also put about five or six kunai on a steel ring and threw it like a frisbee - the centrifugal force distributed the knives more or less evenly. A good throwing knife is not 'meh' as far as throwing goes, and a really good one can actually be used in close-combat with reasonable effect - although its better off being used in conjunction with a larger knife to defend.

Here we see a nerdy discussion about historically accurate weapons.
Who cares about realism when something is just awesome? Like a katana.
Katanas are just awesome.

I think when we are talking about one sword vs. another, it does not make that much of a difference. A great swordsman with a mediocre sword would always beat a mediocre swordsman with a great sword. That is probably why great swordsmen end up with great swords
In Lugaru weapon choice will be more important than in real life because everyone is ridiculously strong, so stronger weapons can destroy weaker weapons (and armor) fairly quickly.

Prezacktly, David.
I think that's what I was trying to get at, but I can't remember.
Basically, people think katanas are awesome because the samurai were really good swordsmen at the time. Yeah, that sounds about right.
So, David, does that mean a stronger weapon (structurally) will be better than a more powerful weapon?

Didn't we have this katana vs. other swords discussion before?

Probably, but what happened was:
Someone made out katanas were TEH AWESOMEZZ!!11!
Someone said katanas were TEH SUXX!!1
Then I took T3H MIDDLEGROUNDZOMG!!!!!
And then David made everyone feel like silly NUBZ!!>!!?!!(!1 and released a casual remark about L2 that made us all dribble from our mouths.

There are a number of different tradeoffs in weapons between sharpness and impact, stabbing and cutting, speed and power, reach and maneuverability, affordability and quality. Once you reach a certain threshold in quality (i.e. the weapon doesn't fail catastrophically) I think the choice would be based mostly on your fighting style and who you are fighting against. You probably wouldn't want a dagger when fighting an armored wolf, or a battle axe against a group of rabbits.

If you could hit someone with that battle axe when fighting a group of rabbits though…

...then you would most likely be susceptible to be blindsided by one of the other rabbits? Battle Axes are unruly weapons that require a lot of control and strength.

Thanks, that's just great, gramps.
I'm not talking about how battle axes are all awesome'n'stuff, I'm just saying that if you did manage to hit someone with a battle axe when fighting a group of rabbits, it'd deal quite a lot of hurt, much like the state of your neck after being blindsided.

Fact remains using the battleaxe in the situation would be STUPID.

I believe you have lost the right to call me that.
