Map editor tutorial?

Post by Wilbefast » Tue Jun 02, 2009 7:18 am

Hey guys - wanted to give the map editor a spin an I've figured how to do a whole bunch of stuff with it, but there are a few things I'm having a little trouble with, namely making new levels (rather than loading and editing old ones) - I'm wondering if there's a tutorial out there somewhere.

And if there isn't, there should be :o

First turn on your debug.
Then shift + m turn on the map editor.
After that - if you push the p botton you will spawn a rabbit.
Shift + o should change it to wolf.
O change the skin of a enemy/friend.

Walking Enemyes.Shift + p will spawn one yewoll line the enemy should be in the yewoll line you could make any type of walk.

Map Editing:
The up arrow should change the size of the object you wan't.
With shift + left or rigth arrow should change the object.
The J key change the seasson. With M you place the object you wan't.

Dialogues : I still work only with dedit but its only for XP.

Yeah, all that's in the readme - what I'm trying to figure out is how to start with a clean slate - so far to do any of that stuff you need to already be in a level :?

Also wondering about the extent of things that can be done: for example, can you change the player character's proportions? I wanted to do a flash-back level where they're a kid...

edit: aha!

Yes you can first here is bear proportion 1 1.5 2 1.2
Make it and while youre a huge mussle rabitt spawn a rabbit and with shift + o you change it to wolf but with that proportion not wolf-a bear.

Gotcha - now if the hotspots would actually do what they're supposed to (as opposed to nothing) - mabye I'll put like 4 of the same when in the same place, that way you're bound to trigger one of them :D

You can edit the heightmap.png. Black is minimal height, white is maximal height. You should stay within grey values though.
Each pixel of the heightmap describes a hexagon of heightmap vertices (or an octagon, I'm not sure right now).
Note that the view distance affects the area you can travel in.
Old maps are useless with a changed heightmap, obviously.
How can i fly for tall building?
In debug mode, press SHIFT+M - then, holding space lets you fly.
Jump skill are changedible?
Not directly.
Enemy's number limit can be removed?
Maybe, but it would involve executable hacking. Can't be sure of this though, it might be next to impossible. I attempted this a few times and failed.
Enemies can fight among themselves?
No.

This probably something obvious or impossible, but I couldn't figure out how to get weapons on the map, other than what was already there.

To get more weapons on the map, give an enemy a weapon, then take it if you want Turner to have it. Should be SHIFT+X for giving the nearest enemy a weapon, SHIFT+X to cycle through enemy weapons; take the weapon by fighting the enemy so that he drops it; X to cycle through Turner's weapons.

Weapons are only saved if a character (Turner or some enemy) carries them.

Cool, thanks. That makes things a lot more fun when I'm messing around in debug mode
