It's been years since I've seen the movie, but that helps as a start. I'll write a couple ideas, and see where we go from there.

Edit... sorry, I thought you were talking about the movie Red Dawn for a moment... I'll check out the music from Deception...

So I wrote 2 little things last night. I think the menu music is cool in game, but I can't get the action music to work. Every time I convert it to .ogg it sounds like it's playing back at the wrong sample rate (and very soft...) If anyone can help me with that, it would be great.

Anyway, here are two mp3s to check out:

Menu Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music3.mp3
Action Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music2.mp3

Snow Ambient Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music1snow.mp3
Desert Ambient Music (will still be a snow level): http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music1desert.mp3
Grass Ambient Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music1grass.mp3

Download all of it: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/reddawn.zip

let me know if this is at all in the direction you wanted to go.

Edit: Listening to the action cue in my browser now, I think it's soft in general - after family activities tonight, I'll make the whole piece louder.

UPDATE: - The links above now point to revised versions
You can also download ogg versions here (for the linux/New UB versions):
Menu Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music3.ogg
Action Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music2.ogg
Snow Ambient Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music1snow.ogg
Desert Ambient Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music1desert.ogg
Grass Ambient Music: http://antonriehl.com/lugaru/music/music1grass.ogg

Another update: I'm starting to collect music I write for Lugaru mods here: http://lugaru.antonriehl.com

Overall, the music sounds pretty cool, however it may need some adjuctments:

In the menu music at the beggining, there is astatic sorta noise, which seems out of place
im also getting a sort of desert feel to the soundtrack, you probably based this off of the trailer from the action sequences. All my maps are actually in the snow, i simply applied a filter to the footage creating that yellowish look. Its hard to describe, but the music needs to feel colder, and more empty if you know what i mean, other than that its very good

When I convert music2.mp3 to ogg, it plays at the same speed.

I've uploaded it for you (in a ZIP file) - maybe Lugaru needs differently encoded music files for different operating systems? I'm on XP here.

Edit: I used Audacity with its builtin Ogg Vorbis encoder, by the way.

Thanks for the info rudel_ic. About the same time I got your message, I also tried audacity (which didn't work at first), but now seems to be working. Of course now that I'm hearing it in game, I have some things I want to change already...

Monkey, I'll take a look at the comments you made. The static noise was an idea stemming a little from The Dark Knight, but I realize it might be too extreme. I'll tone that back (or remove it...). I actually didn't consider the music to be desert-like, but when I do the ambient track, it should be much colder. So, just to clarify, you only use the snow map? If that's the case, I only have to write one ambient track for this mod.

Whoa... with ariehl doing your music it won't matter if the campaign is crappy :D .

Man, you're lucky, getting ariehl to do your music.

Yes i only use snow maps, as it fits better to the theme of communism, as in history it was strongest in russia, a region known for its cold winters.

Hey, I've got an idea for you: You could mod all textures for the desert and grass theme so that they are also snow-themed, but with different snow, or ice or whatever else comes to mind.
That way, you could introduce snow-themed variety in textures _and_ would get 3 opportunities for custom music and ambient stuff.

I think that would be really cool!

Yea that is a good idea...

i just started, and am using the desert to create a glacier type of frozen ocean appearance to create a fishing village type creation...

One thing that gets a bit annoying is the built in feature to the desert where it blurs randomly to create the mirage effect, anyone know how to get rid of that?

I don't think it's possible, but I could be wrong, of course.

Since im trying to make a glacier type thing for the desert, could you incorporate ice cracking into the ambient?

Glad you're enjoying it... but it's not that lucky... I'm trying to work on as many mods as possible... so if you need something...

I'm working on the snow ambient track still right now, but I'll keep it in mind when starting the desert track. I'm not sure how well it will work as part of the music track, but we'll see.

This idea sounds epic. I have always wondered if there was a way to make an ally bunny. I know that is off topic, but if it was possible he could form a group of bunnies and be the rebellion. I feel a little like I am kinda stepping on your idea so keep in my mind it is just a suggestion.

you can't, the settings applying to the rabbit's friendliness towards you applies to all rabbits and wolves placed on the map.
