As long as it doesn't require the "skill" of mashing random buttons, it might be a sort of good idea

well. i would not want to sacrifice my keyboard.
There could be many ways. there is maybe particular keys (thinking Click and Shift as they are the once mainly used) It goes into slowmo so you can see turner Struggling to keep the knife away from his jugular whilst he is pinned down after being Bashed up. this would give him a little more health once he escapes (only a very little) They may be things like...

pressing buttons as they be shown in the screen corner, the longer it takes for you to do that and the less accurate you are the less chance of Survival.

or

the Idea could be Shift to do things corresponding to the situation such as Grabbing the knife and the more you tap it the more chance of grabbing the guys arm and keeping hold of it. and then the Click could be you're attempt to Smash the guy in the face, knock the guy off, or something similar.

or

we Could use the Button masher system as you said. but we don't want that do we?

What about the pattern style of "saving throws"...where you have to hit a certain button when it flashes on screen or something.

Looks like the same guy who was obsessed with chopping meat in your other avatar, but I bet it IS the same… thing?

It would be interesting to see some sort of saving throw... I guess... but I'd prefer to roll out of the way... or quad run.

Also, I wonder if you'll be able to quad run faster in L2? L1 seemed a bit slow...

It had a realistic catching-up-to-the-cowards speed, but it might be interesting to see it faster

Actually, it was good for games like Smackdown for the PS2, where you were getting pinned, so you'd start frantically bashing the buttons to try to kick out. It increased the excitement of the game, especially if you kick out when you don't expect to while bashing the controller and almost jumping off your seat.

Games that actually encourage you to do that suck even more.

No, for console games like ps2, it's alright. It just gets a bit silly when you're trying to button mash a keyboard, it's a good way to wear one out (But those aren't random button combinations like left, left, punch, kick, jump, crouch. It's just, "mash any button for 4 seconds!").

But I think saving throws in a fighting game are lame. It should just be the usual shift to reverse, or you get slashed across the back. You don't need to bring in the concept of D&D dice rolls, or three times a day epic manuevers.

So it would be like the second one. You hit shift when the knife is stretched out to stab you (which causes you to grab it), and then click the mouse once you have the knife in your hands to stab them or elbow them away (or just, not click and try to just grapple the knife away). That's just like in L1, but you add in the ending punch yourself (which may or may not be actually necessary if that's all you do at the end...).

Exactly. :)

Button mashings on console, keyboard, or anything suck, as far as I'm concerned, though, I'm kinda old-fashioned :P
