Pardon?!Silb wrote:Truly awesome to think about. A realistic world with only a limited number of good equipment. And no rules!
Anarchy at its best. Some people would try to form communities that claim certain lands (especially near food/iron/... productions). No NPC except some raiding wolves that would encourage the players to try to stand together sometimes to oppose some resistance.
...even if it is technically possible (doubt MMO action is), we'll most certainly never see it
You make a valid point on everything else. Of course, there is the fact that, as someone else pointed out, Dave is not great at the whole internet thing. Now he's one incredible fellow, that's text-book! But asking for a MMORPG out of him is a bit much me thinks.Zantalos wrote:Maybe this has wandered off from the original post. What he was saying (In my mind) was an ongoing singleplayer game. For any one who hasn't played Freelancer, it was a huge open universe. There were hundreds of worlds and stations to land on, that existed in the multiple solar systems which comprised up the 5 different galaxies. The whole game was huge and the single player mode didn't even require you to cover all the places you would pass by during quest missions (Im not sure if it was even possible to visit every place in the game).
The game had a multiplayer in it aswell. You would expect it to be able work as a MMORPG but, it didn't. All it mainly did was create a single player game that ran on every server. All the quests were taken out so the only way to earn money was by trading goods or by completing the randomly generated "jobs" many people at each locaion would give you (Their were an infinite supply of jobs). It wasn't that big of a deal to get the best ship, people would just teamplay with each other for fun against the computer instead (in some cases, each other).
The same thing could be done with Lugaru. People could sign in, mess around, make some screen shots, kill some baddies, everything they would do in single player, without the actual storyline. You didn't need a whole mass of players for it to work either, a server could have maybe only four people, maybe even just two people. I'm not saying that it should just be a MMORPG, (if you would call it that) it would still have all the other multiplayer game types, the co-op mode, as this may be called, would just be one of them.
As for the whole sniper thing, In all games I've played their is diversity. So what if a few choose to be ranged instead of close quarters? The game would easily be balanced to have both, even more kinds of playing styles if they wanted.
