The Humble Indie Bundle

Post by Blorx » Tue May 04, 2010 8:40 pm

I don't know if anyone else saw it, but Wolfire and some of their friends have the Humble Indie Bundle sale going on now. You pay what you want, and it can either all go to charity, all go to the developers, or be split however you want.

I think it's a neat idea, whether you have the games or not. Personally, it gave me an excuse to rebuy the games I had, but lost when the Macbook Pro died, for cheap (*cough*$10*cough*) and it could all be put towards charity.

Also, if you don't have one or more of the 5 games, then it gives you an excuse to buy them now.

Yeah, I already had all the games, but I thought it wouldn't be a problem since it's helping charity. :)

I really hope i get access to a credit card before the offer ends. Even though i only get Penumbra (wich i've been planning to buy anyways) and Aquaria (wich i also find kinda intresting), i think im going to pay more than 50usd.

Im completely shocked by how much money they're raking in with the bundle ...

It actually makes me really happy to see that people are so good willed that the average is around $7 a purchase ...

It puts me in a bad predicament since i only have .06 dollars in my paypal account ... which i could reload with a card, but id have to pay $6 to them for doing practically nothing :? ...

I guess I could link my paypal account to my debit card ... but I purposely didn't do that because I was afraid I would become financially irresponsible due to ebay purchases

It's awesome, that's for sure.

As a side-note, I finally played Penumbra. That game is creepy as hell. The first time I encountered one of those dog things, I freaked.

Yeah, it's a lot freakier being put against these things when you've been reading all along just how much of a force they are, and with the game constantly giving you hints saying that you're not just going to be able to take it down without some sort of effort.

I did try to keep pressing forward, but ended up dying, so just a hint I wish they would have told me: the dog can get through the door.

Just a few numbers for you all this morning:

1658 "Organic Indie packs" were sold in 7 days, with money split evenly between the two companies. Since each pack cost $40, these means Wolfire made about $33,000 in a week.

As of a few minutes ago, $321,888 has been raised by the "Humble indie bundle" in only 2 days. Assuming that it is split 7 ways evenly, this means that Wolfire has made about $46,000 already :P

If this trend continues as it did with the first pack, they will have made about $160,000 by the end of the week

That's amazing! I sure hope it does that well!

What's also amazing is, that just about EVERY forum I lurk or post in, there's at least one thread about or containing this. It's almost an internet-wide phenomenon!
