"Could Not Set Display Mode"?
"Could Not Set Display Mode"?
Hey, I just downloaded Lugaru and I've been trying to play for a while now, but every time I click on the .exe I get an error saying "Could Not Set Display Mode". I'm running windows vista, does anyone know why this won't work and how I could solve this?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

1. Get a mac
2. Burn your PC
3. Bomb the pentagon. wait no how did that get in there?!

Re: "Could Not Set Display Mode"?
I have had exactly the same problem on my Acer Aspire Laptop (Windows Vista).
However, the problem does not seem to appear on any desktop I use. I wonder why?
I will try to find a solution, and I hope that I do so soon!

If you can't actually be helpful, just don't post; we don't need any more flame wars, Renegade_Turner inadvertently generates enough of themThe Great and Mighty zip wrote:8. Please, no Mac vs PC debates, they just make people mad and split the community.

Re: "Could Not Set Display Mode"?
I'm having the exact same problem, I try to use it on my Laptop and it doesn't work, so I tried an experiment and used it on a desktop and it worked fine. I haven't tried it on many desktops yet, but currently this game just doesn't like laptops. I'm perplexed...
Re: "Could Not Set Display Mode"?
Laptops tend to have strange aspect ratios, so maybe they just can't handle the default resolution. You could try changing the config.txt file to match your native resolution.

My tests have assured me that this game does not like Laptops, or at least their screens. Anyway, to David, I tried doing that but it doesn't help anything.
Re: "Could Not Set Display Mode"?
try manually editing the configuration file and setting it to 640 x 480.
You may play around with detail levels. Windows 7 64bit requires me to leave detail on medium or high for me to run it. I am also required to have the desktop compositor enabled.
Intel gma X3100(sucks) with 2gb ram 1.6ghz cpu. Game usually runs fine at 640x480

I appreciate the input, but unfortunately it doesn't work. I still get the same message.tannim wrote:try manually editing the configuration file and setting it to 640 x 480.

get away from windows failure 2(vista) then I guess :/
Boot up to a usb linux and play it on there maybe.
You can also try updating your video card driver on your laptop.
what IS your laptop? specifications.

Re: "Could Not Set Display Mode"?
From my recent experience, computers running Windows Vista (especially laptops) can be quite unpredictable. As stated before, laptops do have weird aspect ratios for the screen, so I messed around a bit with the settings on my laptop's monitor. Serendipitously, I found that the solution (my solution at least, this may not always work) is to set the screen resolution of the computer according to Lugaru's default resolution (1024x768) as shown in the config file. I hope this fixes your problem as it did mine.
