Wow, that just sounds like a multi-nonsense-elaborated version of "oh, it was all a dream, the whole thing was just a dream"Grayswandir wrote:Worst Ending for a recent game I've played so far:
The 3rd Birthday - PSP
So you're Aya Brea and you've spent the entire game an amnesiac....
So it's totally annoying as itself, and extra double annoying because it looks suspiciously like they're going to try to sell you a sequel...
Game writers do love the "amnesia" story lines, though. What a handy explanation for why you are here in this weird place, in this body, etc. It's so popular that Yahtzee said, more or less, "If games were a disease, the first symptom would be amnesia, followed closely by kleptomania."

The worst part is you couldn't even go back to collect the rest of the flags...David wrote:Portal also has to mentioned for the aforementioned smiling-your-ass-off factor The ending of Shadow of the Colossus was also pretty amazing, though weird; it reminded me of 2001. Monkey Island 2 had a really bad ending (just a shake above "And then I woke up").

Braid.
In my opinion, Braid had the most touching ending I have ever encountered in movie, book or game. I would highly recommend anyone who hasn't played through Braid to go get it right now, and avoid any spoilers until after the epilogue.
Otherwise...
Really atmospheric, creepy as fuck.
I was thinking about the music in this game for weeks...
One of the most polished games I have played, the atmosphere and styling is spot on. Very short.

Put simply, the final level has Tim (your character) help and be helped by the Princess, a character never seen before, but frequently described as Tim's love interest throughout each level intro.
The princess jumps from the arms of a muscly knight, and a wall of fire begins to emerge from the left hand side of the screen. Tim and the Princess each manipulate platforms for one another, until, eventually you the top platform, only glass separating the characters.
The game freezes, the only gameplay option is to rewind. You see then Princess is trying to kill (Or protect herself from) Tim, and his obsession with her.
The princess jumps into the arms of the beefy guy and the level ends.
Next comes the epilogue level, with a few cryptic remarks. "Now we are all sons of bitches."
The player is left with no explanation of what has happened and is transported back to the hub level. Sad and beautiful.
Oh yeah, this explains everything...
Really atmospheric, creepy as fuck.

^ That isn't the full ending, just the part where you kill Red.
You kill the guy who has helped you (and tried to kill you), and he begs you to. You never see him, only his ashes after he is incinerated.
Then you go into the big creepy door and get knocked out by a monster.

That's all I have for now, apologies for the wall o' text.Spoilers all the way wrote:
^ As Gravity bone is so short, here is a full playthrough. The ending is 6:00 ish
You are shot and fall of a building.
You fall in slow motion and see various flashbacks before cutting to the menu.
Cheesy, like an old movie perhaps.
Re: Best/Worst game endings
Man, gravitybone was a neat little gem. The ending really is crass, but the flashbacks really made me want a longer gravitybone game just to play those. The graphics definitely had their charm. In spite of it's short length (or maybe because of it's length) it was worth the playthrough.

I was more than a little disappointed by Gravity Bone's length... not that the shortness makes it bad, it just could have been better.

I don't know if I mentioned this but Fable 3, the ending felt really rushed.
Re: Best/Worst game endings
Indeed, I was hoping it to be like Fable 2... But it was entirely rushed... Shamezoidberg rules wrote:I don't know if I mentioned this but Fable 3, the ending felt really rushed.

Even Fable 2's ending seemed to come abruptly.
(where did those 10 years magically disappear to?)

I don't get what's so amazing about Gravity Bone. You get a drink. You break locks. You take pictures. You chase someone. You die. I don't see much else.m3nace wrote:Man, gravitybone was a neat little gem. The ending really is crass, but the flashbacks really made me want a longer gravitybone game just to play those. **SPOILER ALERT**
Portal 2 had quite the best game ending I have ever seen. I realized I was attached to some of the characters. The new song "Want you Gone" was great.
It doesn't seem as good just watching the video as it does actually finishing the game.

Son, you need to play more high-quality games. Not to say that Portal 2's ending had anything but the best to give, story- and gameplay-wise, but there are a lot of games that have a much more enjoyable ending than that.sriven wrote:Portal 2 had quite the best game ending I have ever seen.
