Jet Packer Indie Games

Post by cypher » Tue Nov 23, 2010 1:17 am

Hi I thought this would be a good place to tell people about the game I've started to make. I havn't done lots but I am working on it in my spare time. Its a shooter and one of the main ideas in it is that the character has a jet pack (hense the name). I am making it in Java Processing and am on my own so it will take a while.

yours Cypher,

you know I can't tell if you're a spam bot or not, that's why introductions are such a good thing. Course chances are I'm talking to a spam bot and now everyone on the forum thinks I'm crazy, but at least you posted this in randomness.

I think it's cool that you're making a game, just introduce yourself, because confusion can lead to catastrophe.

Example:

--------------------------
Yes now-clean-shaven-commander John?
...
An artillery strike on a potential spambot?
....
Yes, John, but we need conformation before we fire. It could be an innocent civilian.
....
I don't care WHAT the beard tells you! The beard is dead John, let it go. We can't have a commander who's emotionally compromised! Even if it's a robot commander!
....
No, John! Don't override the system! NOOOOOOO!
----------------------------

The American Civil war had some really interesting battles ...

It was right at the time where industrialization had started to take effect and armies had to start adapting their tactics to complement the new technology, especially to the naval technology.

Particularly the Battle of Hampton is probably one of the most interesting naval battles I've ever read about. It was probably the only time in history where naval ship defensive capabilities were stronger than their offensive capabilities. This lead to the first ever battle between two ironclad ships.

The CSS Virginia (an ironclad) ripped the shit out of several wooden USS frigates and was about to attack one that ran aground but instead retired from the battle because it was getting dark  ...

Then the next day they CSS Virginia went back to finish off the crippled ship but the USS Monitor had arrived (another ironclad battleship)

The battle between the two lasted for around 3 hours and was just the two fucking ships pounding the hell out of with shells ... and it ended in a draw because neither side could sink, nor cause significant damage to the other. O_o

WWI was also similar in this respect, but this was more due to the introduction of Air combat as well as new land warfare tech such as tanks, chlorine gas, machine guns, etc. The navy had already adapted for the most part to the new advances in tech.

I'm not sure why I gave a spontaneous american history lesson earlier ...

I guess I just like steampunk, and that battle was pretty much the definition of steampunk :P

Look. I don't really care about the torpedoes. I'm just making some games and for a kid who does this in his free time that's enough.

Anyway the old site makers were not reliable or professional so the new site is
http://cypher-games.webs.com
and you can find me on facebook at Cypher Games

Cypher9552 observed the conversation on torpedoes.

And not a single fuck was given that day.
