Favorite old console
Favorite old console
What is your favorite console from the past? Mine would be the Playstation, so many memories. I mainly played Resident Evil on the PS1. Good times.
Re: Favorite old console
The Playstation was definitely the most important console in my life a s a gamer. I mean, it was my last console. I never experienced the later generations, just as I never experienced the N64. I basically went from the NES to the Super Nintendo straight to the PS1 and then to the PC (add in a little GameBoy Pocket). But I wouldn't call the Playstation my favourite console. The games were too advanced already. They don't really trigger the nostalgia in me (although that would probably change if I was faced with Lara Croft in all her amazing blockiness from Tomb Raider 2 right now). I need to go further back.
I have a tough time deciding between NES and Super Nintendo. I feel like Super Nintendo games felt more polished to me, but those really great NES games managed to shine not because of great visuals but because they managed to use the few resources available to create amazing atmosphere and clever gameplay.
StarTropics was one of the first games that managed to leave a permanent mark in my memory. The letter! You had to use a physical object that came with the game in the real world in order to advance in the game. They did what Metal Gear Solid did with the player. Only eight years earlier. I never managed to finish that game. It was just too difficult for me at the time. But I remember that the whole family sat together to watch me and my brother play it and solve puzzles together. That was just so amazing. We would later do that with Tomb Raider, but it started with StarTropics and our NES. Some of my fondest gaming memories.

The Xbox 360.
I'm a present-kind of guy. I don't live in the past. I have no favourite old console currently because I much prefer using up to date hardware. (I'm actually a PC gamer though )
If I had to choose though, I guess I'd say the PS2. It has Ratchet & Clank 1, 2, and 3. Enough said.

Re: Favorite old console
it makes me really sad to see people saying ps1 or ps2 as favourite old consoles, I would never even have thought of them as being old.
Re: Favorite old console
PS1 was released in 1994 in japan, 1995 everywhere else.
That's nearly 20 years ago.
So yeah, for a console, a novelty electronics item, that's pretty old.

Actually, I think my favorite was the Brown Box. I used to spend hours playing pong with myself when I was older.
