Software to select 256 characters of text

Does anyone know of any software that can select a specific amount of text? I'm putting books into Minecraft and a software like this would make it all the more easier.

Word has a feature to count the amount of characters in the document.
That's as much as I know about the subject. It's probably possible in other text editors aswell.

Yes, you can just highlight on Word until you get to 256 characters.

Each page on Minecraft can hold up to 256 characters, and it has copy + paste support. If I paste in 256 characters into each page, I can take books from the Elder Scrolls and then put it into my library on Minecraft.

Completely unrelated, but why do you always bold your text?

Atleast in Word 2007, you can make use of a feature for that.

Click the button that says "Words: " on it in the lower left.
