OUYA Discussion.
Hello Wolfire forum.
I've been having this silly idea for a while now and I want you guys to tell me what you think?
Well, I've been thinking of what would it be like to have an Ouya exclusive game set in the Lugaru universe, with graphics similar to Lugaru's (or a maybe better), or maybe a stylized art style (I'm not talking about big heads and small bodies, maybe something along the lines of a cartoony style but still reminiscent of Lugaru/Overgrowth).
I mean just think of it. it would be like an OG spin-off, it could set up the story for Overgrowth, or maybe raise awareness for it. Maybe the team could learn a few techniques and improve upon Overgrowth (like they did with Receiver and LLC).
And since David is already working on a Unity OG prototype to test out arena gameplay elements, maybe he could start from there (since Unity already has an Ouya plugin).
I'm not saying that they should stop the development of Overgrowth, I'm just suggesting the idea of a spin-off title (maybe another team could do it?).
I know it's silly and that game development takes a lot of time and effort, but don't you think it would be a great idea?
P.S. If this forum doesn't already have an OUYA topic, maybe this could be it
Thank you.
-Manny.

Re: OUYA Discussion.
I don't know of any connections between Overgrowth and Unity engine. Wolfire has made Unity games, but they are games made by Wolfire, not Overgrowth. They might be trying out new things on those games, like networking, and some of those new things might affect Overgrowth development, but that's way different.

There is no connection between Overgrowth and Unity, but I don't remember where I heard that David is creating a prototype in Unity that simulates Overgrowth arena gameplay to test out metagame ideas.Endoperez wrote:I don't know of any connections between Overgrowth and Unity engine. Re: OUYA Discussion.
This is the official forum. Someone here will know about that if it's real, but personally I believe that's just a rumour.
I mean, think about this - he's spent several years making Overgrowth. The combat system works. The arena system works. Why would he create the arena metagame in Unity, instead of Overgrowth, where he can actually test it?
The only reason would be to do it without the combat mechanics and just random wins/losses, in which case there's nothing to port to OUYA.

I'll just leave this here..Endoperez wrote:This is the official forum. Someone here will know about that if it's real, but personally I believe that's just a rumour.

Thanks. I'm outsourcing my knowledge!akazi wrote:from twitter.David wrote:Making a separate Unity prototype of some arena metagame ideas to try separating gameplay and technical R&D.
Any way, since the actual gameplay is separate from it, there isn't any game in that prototype, and so nothing to port to OUYA.

Hmm, that's unfortunate, I would have loved to whoop ninja-rabbit ass on a console.Endoperez wrote:Thanks. I'm outsourcing my knowledge!akazi wrote:from twitter.David wrote:Making a separate Unity prototype of some arena metagame ideas to try separating gameplay and technical R&D.

Still, that doesn't mean that there won't be a Lugaru game on the OUYA. A while back, I sent Wolfire an e-mail asking if there were any plans for OUYA (LLC/Receiver port), this is what they said:
I'm Manny btwHi Manny,
There are no plans, but it would be pretty sweet to see our games on OUYA
Thank you for your support,
Eric Samuel

Wolfire Games
So, they would like to see their games on OUYA. Fingers crossed, everyone
I personally would like to see Receiver on OUYA (aside from a Lugaru game of course.)

Re: OUYA Discussion.
No. Any console/other kind of platform for a Lugaru "style" game would just ruin it. Like x-box did with minecraft.
Re: OUYA Discussion.
Alright, you'll have to explain that argument, because I don't see any logic in it.8bit_Jellybean wrote:No. Any console/other kind of platform for a Lugaru "style" game would just ruin it. Like x-box did with minecraft.
Re: OUYA Discussion.
Xbox ruined Minecraft?
Re: OUYA Discussion.
Overgrowth can be played with an X-Box controller. Dodging is tricky, but it works pretty well.8bit_Jellybean wrote:No. Any console/other kind of platform for a Lugaru "style" game would just ruin it. Like x-box did with minecraft.

Re: OUYA Discussion.
I, myself, would like to see Lugaru on the OUYA. Unfortunately, the game is completely incompatible with game controllers. Fortunately, the game is open-sourced, so someone can update the engine if they feel like it.

You can already play it with a controller without any problems... Okay, the camera is one, but all you have to do is semi-lock it behind the character and, voilà, Overgrowth with pretty reasonable controller controls.
Re: OUYA Discussion.
He's talking about Lugaru being incompatible with controllers, not overgrowth.
