Series of "Short Film" GIFs

Post by BunnyWithStick » Sat Jul 08, 2006 8:27 am

Inspired to maybe put my "Thing" series on the wolfire forums by again seeing Vib Rib's rather amazing comic strip talents, I'll post my series (Some but not all now and thens added to) of GIF short films here if people around here give their general approval. And yes, I may have gotten the name from "Thing Thing", and the body graphics are pretty much the same, but it has nothing to do with it whatsoever

It's about a hero doing various things for no apparant reason, like getting boxes, fighting carnivorous plants, demolishing and being demolished by walls, doing archery (But with a twist ), and that sort of stuff, oh, and there's a very short swordfight, too, which looks kinda cool

So, everyone, say so if you want to see them, and I'll put them up! :)

P.S: Polls wouldn't do well, since I'm not expecting any "no"s, and I'll post them in this thread

I'm cautiously optimistic. Show us what you've got.

Ok then :D

First GIF animation, yes, the first frame has a compression issue that I've figured out and fixed by now, no arms or legs yet:
Here

Second GIF animation, rather good, in my opinion, one of my favourites, I like the bit of smooooth "physics" at the end I did:
Here

Sorry about this, but once you've seen these, I'll post more, and sorry to imageshack, but this sort of stuff just wouldn't work well with their image viewing system, so here's a button to thank them for their service

Heh, those were kinda cool.
Pretty good for something made in Paint(?).

Yes, they were made in appleworks drawing and GIFfun, and they didn't take long to make, but if I put my mind to it, and maybe upped the standard framerate I could make some rather nice stuff. Here's my third:

And here's a dancer I made:

And I feel that I have to show you my mini-swordfight:
Here

P.S: Yes, the dancer does look a bit like a "Pendulum Man"

I find it funny that he has to bounce his hips against his hands to make them move.

Heh, hence "Pendulum Man", it was kinda an accident, if I get the time and willpower, I might attempt something a little less short, but I guess I should post the rest of my animations:

Standard Archery... Almost:
Here

And here's the carnivorous plant, a bit docile really :D:
Here

The swordfight, rather niceish:
Here

One I made earlier today, a fight for a gun, or a fight with a gun, or a fight passing a gun around:

Obviously you already have some cool ideas, now the only thing you really need to work on is making them a lot smoother.

If you mean mean more frames, then, ok, I'll do that, well, maybe, but if you mean graphics, YOU try making something good with appleworks and GIFfun :P

It's not something that works well with gifs, and by the way, I prefer quality of content over quality of graphics, like everyone should, I'm not trying to make anything amazingly detailed here

Now, let's see if I'm going to bother to make a long fight sequence, like all those Xiao Xiao style stickfights, perhaps, I hope my bad graphics don't befoul the whole style… (Wink Wink Wink…)

I meant more frames. :P

If you could make something as awesome as xiao xiao, then you get 20 n1nj4 t0k3nz.

Pretty cool animations. I know I couldn't do them better. I tried that stuff with the Pivot Stick Animator thingy, and I got this pretty nice flying-kick animation, Jet-Li style. That was all, though. :(

Hey BwS...have you tried using flash instead of gif images? It might make it smoother and probably easier to animate.
