Actually you can find from my old posts about the re-creation of meat bunny the real shader that turned all the characters red and shiny like David's shaders did. And the shader still works.

Nice, I tried the shader and worked fine. Pretty funny looking. :P

It looks related to Overgrowth/Lugaru, but it's not, it's a guy I tend to draw a lot, though rarely with a spear:

Still struggling with colouring it... :|

I really like the drawing, but the pose is weird. He's sort of... mid-jump? His hands aren't quite aligned with the spear-shaft, and the spear itself looks really short, as if you ran out of space.

All the details are superb.

Yeah, I was struggling with the leg placement, center of gravity isn't working out, he'll topple backwards if he is standing. And the spear is too short indeed, it's annoying how those things can be easily overlooked when you're busy drawing it. :| Thanks for pointing it out, might be able to alter those things with the power of digital technology! The linework is done traditionally, with good ol' ink.

I don't know, it's good for what it is, but getting into the habit of fixing those sorts of faults post-haste won't be very productive. It'd be better to find ways to avoid making those mistakes in the future.

How do you draw, usually? Do you start drawing the pose and figure right away, or do you doodle some small thumbnail-sized ideas down first?

Ive found that thumbnailing and sketching really helps to get the concrete idea and details down, and unlike that finished drawing, they're fast to do. For example...

Image

There are several thumbs where he tries to convey strength and holding up a big weight, but some of those don't look very strong. 1 and 3 look like they're being crushed by a weight, 2 isn't crushed but he's just hanging there in a weird way. The one rock-holding pose on the right side looks better, and combining that with the legs from 2 or 3 would make for a really nice strong pose.
