Ehhhhh, that could work. But then you risk getting rid of a lurker or something who just reads posts but doesn't make any himself.Grayswandir wrote:Oh. I've been rather harsh on every spam thing I see in a foreign language and just getting rid of them all permanently. I have been running their thread titles through Google translate as of late though.
EDIT: I just banned 3-4 spam accounts. I was noticing something while looking through them. Some of them were made months ago. Maybe we should just delete all accounts made more than a month ago with 0 posts.

Re: Sudden surge of spam
So be it. Just put a post somewhere saying that all the zero post accounts made within a few months are being deleted and if they want to keep their account they have x amount of time to post before it goes otherwise they'll have to make a new one.AmorphousGamer wrote:Ehhhhh, that could work. Spambots might be posting things copied from another thread or even another forum. Those can be quite hard to spot. It's better to ban just in case when it's clear that the post is off-topic.nebd wrote:Should this sort of post be approved or disapproved?
If you're unsure, you can check the poster's profile by clicking his name (in the "by XYZ" link under the post's title). Some spammers' links are in their signature, which aren't visible in the posts in this forum. You only see them by visiting the profile.
Other information that shows an account as a spammer: posting in Cyrillic (= Russian alphabet), but the "location" being something different like Australia.

OH MY FUCK THE SPAM TOPICS ARE FILLING THE SCREEN
Re: Sudden surge of spam
That's weird; I got a russian post saying where to work out or whatever the hell, but it was posted in the Lugaru subforum. I ran it through Google Translate and it was just a question. So I approved it and translated text saying that it belongs in the randomness subforum into Russian, then sent it.
Thing is, both things seem like they could lead into some kind of marketing topic...
What to get for a new smartphone, and where to work out....

It is very easy to tell if it is spam.
Is it russian? Spam.

Got some more spam. Buttered toast and all that. Listening to good music not gonna let all the spam get me down.
Re: Sudden surge of spam
Thus forum probably has a horrible anti-Russian aura about it now.
I do the same thing because so much of the Russian stuff is spam.

Re: Sudden surge of spam
Yeah, I've started just disapproving any Russian post on the grounds that it's Russian. I really shouldn't. If there are any confused Russians out there who don't understand why their posts are being disapproved, well . . . I'm sorry, I suppose. :PKorban3 wrote:Thus forum probably has a horrible anti-Russian aura about it now.
