Funny thing is, Jeff once implemented a super simple anti-spam feature that didn't impact anyone's forum experience much at all and that actually cut our spam to relatively nothing. But everyone bitched about some perceived issue and the addition was repealed in under a week, IIRC.

Jeff has since forsaken his faithless worshipers. But even to this day, the faithful few retain hope that their lord and savior will someday return to this plane and restore our once glorious existence.

Really? What on earth could they have bitched about? Surely you're not talking about that "Checking your browser" thing that made everyone wait X seconds before any one page was loaded?

Yes
I am talking about exactly that. And a lot of users bitched about it "erasing their posts". A lot.
So Jeff took it off.

I agree with what Phoenixwarrior said above - it affected user experience negatively, the complaints weren't without reason. It was a solution, but the cons were significant.

I keep seeing messages that are reported that aren't actually spam. They're kinda dumb questions (and sometimes useless comments), but they're still not spam.

That is no good. Does it say who reported them?
