I meant that you'd model it so it looks like the sprite from Postal, so it looks like the sprite but in 3D.

Essentially, a 3D model that looks sprite like.

Yeah, I've played with that Endo.

I think that's overly complex and could be solved by simply making it a sprite instead.

Often yes, but there are some advantages. Like being able to animate it once in 3D, instead of 8 times in 2D.

For still images a sprite is faster (for a fast 2D artist, compared or a fast modeler making & rendering it).

That also happens to be a nice example of 3D graphics used to fake 2D look. :)

Yeah, its a great example of the other way around. From what I've read each character has to be render four times and each scene has 160-something MBs of textures and 70+ shaders on it. They also removed all the background lighting to make it look more flat.

On the other hand, here's an example of what phoenix was talking about (I think):

Silly unfitting music, but it was the only video I could find without actually recording something myself.
Myth II uses sprites for all the units but they were 3D models before being put into the game after having 8-16 "snaps" of them taken at different angles to produce the character on a 3D terrain mesh.

More random Myth II shit:

Because Myth II is awesome.

Yeah, that's what Endo talked about. It's a pretty common way of rendering sprites these days and I wouldn't be surprised if that's how Doom was done, although I'm not sure how far along the ability to do that was during that time.

I've played with it myself, and it's a bit odd at first, but effective.

As good as that sounds, it doesn't create a "Doom like" feel in a 3D environment.

{BEGIN UNRELATED BULLSHIT}

In unrelated news: The KnowYourMeme page[1]for GamerGate, and the comments thereof, show that apparently, we're (Or they, I don't use twitter of 8Chan) kicking ass.

I don't buy it. One bit.

That said, it seems like we are. This is a pretty good indicator. If anything is.

Two days ago this happened.

Well, get the popcorn and put out the armchairs.

Dis gon be gud.

Doom had clay sculptures, possibly photographed and turned into sprites. Haven't really looked into it.

Phoenix...

GamerGate is so bad discussing it ruins Christmas. I had to spoil it because it's so aggravating and wrong and stupid.
[+] Sad facts that ruin Christmas
For the last two days or so, GamerGate has defended the right of pedophiles in 8chan boards to post pictures of little kids in swimsuits, sometimes posing with bananas ,because that is not illegal. Patreon, a company that doesn't allow porn' shouldn't deny funding to a site that hosts boards where kids in itty bitty clothing are posted and discussed as sexy.

They defend the man who says he's not going to remove content like that from his site because that's how the site is funded.

And GamerGate attacks (and doxxed) the person who gathered evidence and wrote an article about what's going on in 8chan, because he posted blurred screencaps as proof of what was going on, which constitues spreading of child porn according to their logic.

https://medium.com/@FoldableHuman/the-m ... f750f879fc

Be wary: at least one and possibly several people have been attacked, because reading or linking to that anti-child porn article is downloading and distributing child porn. It's being reported to the FBI. By Gamergate. Oh and I think they doxxed someone again.

Showing GamerGate in action is worse than anything I, as someone who opposes it, can say about it.
Sorry for ruining Christmas, guys.

Wrong. Child Porn is illegal and the 8Chan rules state that it should be reported to the admins.
GG is defending itself from being grouped in and shut down along with the pedophiles.

Also wrong. 8Chan gets it's money from Patreon which shut them down thanks to Zoe. In response they created a new Patreon to fund the site in secret.

And GamerGate attacks (and doxxed) the person who gathered evidence and wrote an article about what's going on in 8chan, because he posted blurred screencaps as proof of what was going on, which constitues spreading of child porn according to their logic.
Except it does, by any standards.

If they want to step into grayer areas of porn, 7chan is the place.
Not that I would know or anything

GG is defending itself from being grouped in and shut down along with the pedophiles.
If that were all, why are Ggrs attacking this article about 8chan that does not mention GG?
https://medium.com/@FoldableHuman/the-m ... f750f879fc

And the other article about this only mentions GG on passing.

If GG is only defending themselves, why are they defending the man who says he's not going to remove content like that from his site because that's how the site is funded?

If that is true, since all the content is from 8chan, 8chan is an illegal site and should be shut down. Also I'm a criminal and you need to report my post to the police, and the forum admins.

Because GG IS 8chan. Without it GG is nothing.

1: See above.
2: No, it's not how the site is funded. It's how the site keeps competition with 4chan. There isn't a way to fund your site off child porn, which is also being deleted.

Listen to yourself, please.

'It's not so bad.'
'Well, it is but it's deleted.'
'Any way it's fine, it makes us better than the prudes of 4chan. '
'That's what makes us something.'

GG should be defined by changing the world, not by an anonymous discussion on a forum. Why doesn't gamergate host its own anon board with its own rules and moderators? It can't be that hard. I mean, there must still be IT people who won't mind doing it...

Also, if the main defining difference between two competing products isn't a reason to choose one over another, I don't know what is.
