I'm kind of one, just because anthro characters are a little more fun to draw. I just find yiff in bad taste.
Re: Are you a furry?
I have a friend who also likes drawing anthro characters. The added kayer symbolism is really nice when it's handled well.Albino Axolotl wrote:I'm kind of one, just because anthro characters are a little more fun to draw. I just find yiff in bad taste.
Also, Blacksad. Everyone who reads Blacksad understands why they're all anthromoprhic animals.

I once stumbled across a Youtube video of a dude humping a Twilight Sparkle stuffed animal while dressed in a Giraffe costume... That kinda turned me away from all things furry.

Re: Are you a furry?
Why would anyone choose to be a furry when you could be a fan of Steven Universe and be a polymorphic sentient rock!
Hardly a choice, there.
I understand there's also "gemsonas" - anthro gems! Here's the one from the April Fools episode that made fun of them.
I'm not into that, though, I just watch the show for the way it handles representation and how it portrays scenes with a feel ranging from 'awesome' to 'hilarious' to 'awkward' to 'why am I cryin' over a cartoon'.

Seems satirical in nature, don't let it discourage you.

Re: Are you a furry?
I don't find furry art any stranger than say, anthropomorphic warship girls:
Re: Are you a furry?
The first one is just a picture of an anime-stylized human that is said to be a warship. Furry art isn't any stranger than any other art, but it's definitely less weird than art that says the thing that it shows is actually a thing that it doesn't look like. I mean, sheesh, where's the logic in that?
Any way, if furry art has one fault, it is that so much of furry art looks the same, and kinda crappy. So many furry artists are basically young teens more or less copying other teens' art.
Reactions to furry art and fandom of furry art are not reactions to anthropomorphic art style. That's different. The reactions are to what people assume is part of being a furry fandom/culture/circles. I never really got the hate, myself. Seems pretty similar to the Tumblr hate, or anime hate, or western cartoon hate, or whatever. Pony hate. Haters gonna hate, unfortunately..
I mean, all this below is basically what people think is bad about furries, but in these cases, most people wouldn't react to these things as they'd react to furries or furry art:
This is a human playing a boat:
This is a human playing a robot playing a car (more than meets the eye?):
This is an example of an anthropomorphic lizard drawn in a non-furry style (Stjepan at his best is unbelievably awesome):
And here's Blacksad, which is awesome:
And here's Maus, which is tragic:
This is an anthropomorphic car (a van, as it happens).
Being a fan of Stjepan Šejić isn't weird, except when you have to write or say his name. Being a fan of Blacksad isn't weird. Being a fan of Cars isn't weird; in fact, these days the kid who doesn't like it is probably the weird one! All of these things are things that'd be "bad" if it was done by furries, and I just find it so weird, and why did I write this huge post again? This is so weird. Seriously what am I even doing? Huh.
