Speaking of emo people, I used to listed to linkin Park :) . The only album I ever listen to now, is Reanimation :D . That's a sweet album, considering I'm a DJ too 8) .

Edit: I correct myself, Linkin Park is freakin' emo, means I don't like 'em.

There's a know-it-all emo girl in my English class who denies that she's emo. . . I mean seriously emo though. Like dark poetry and AFI shirts emo.

I don't like mainstream music. I like listening to the stuff that makes people say "Who are these guys?"

I like this thread. I'm a music addict, and my mission is to tell people about the music they're missing out on.

So, here are the bands you must check out (especially the DJ in the house).

LCD Soundsystem
Animal Collective
Anamanaguchi
Built to Spill
They Might Be Giants
The Aquabats
Portishead
Muse (they're getting more popular now)
Nujabes
Tally Hall
Daft Punk
Pavement
Cake (they're actually pretty popular. If you don't like Cake, you have no soul)
Guster
Dispatch
Radiohead (My favorite band ever)
Medeski, Martin and Wood
The Postal Service
VNV Nation
Pink Floyd (Popular, but awesome)

I'll probably think of more, but this should keep you busy for a while.

As for Linkin Park, I don't like them too much. The lyrics are too dark and generic, and nothing about their musical style is impressive or different. The whole metal/rap thing has been done to death.

There's my two cents.

Lemme just give a huge thanks for Albab for indirectly introducing me
(in the old thread) to Porcupine Tree, because now it has become one of my favourite bands, especially since I got the DVD and saw them live :D

Right now, I listen mostly to PT, Meshuggah and some Deftones.

It has been stated that their new album won't be nu-metal which IMO is a good move.
The new album is a mix of punk, classic rock, and vintage hip-hop beats...more of a stripped down, classic-rock and hip-hop kind of feel. We're using vintage guitars and drums carved out of wood and skin for a more tribal sound. It's definitely not nu-metal
I am quite looking forward to this new album to see what they can do outside of the metal genre.

Personally my favourite band would have to be the Red Hot Chili Peppers, I enjoy the fact that they incorporate different styles of guitar and bass playing, such as the melodic guitar found in the By the Way album and the more funky feel found in Stadium Arcadium.

I highly approve of the Chili Peppers. Their style is refreshing and fun to listen to. I think they got robbed at the grammys. Stadium Arcadium can only be described as epic. Politics, shmolitics.

I gotta say I love anything from Carbon Based Lifeforms to Hallucinogen to Dream Theater to Asura to Nuky to anything that's not on the pop scene today.

(Also, wormguy, how emo of you. Judging groups and bands and projects by their inpopularity is just as bad as listening to stuff just cause it's popular. Listen to what YOU like. [although it's nice of you to support those scenes. And you got some nice ones in your list =D])
