Question About Modding

Post by yodakong » Sat Feb 23, 2008 7:08 pm

in the skin modding guide, it said that a skin is just a 2-D layout that will be wrapped around a 3-D model. I would like to know where the file for the 3-D model is, and if it's possible to mod it.

3D models for Lugaru are found in Lugaru/Data/Models, and yes, it is possible to mod them, the only trouble is it's nearly impossible to do anything with the .shape files in this folder, and there aren't any editors for it. If you do find a .shape editor, chances are it won't work.

Um, general hacking… It's been a while since anyone mentioned the hacking exploits of someone whose name I can't remember.

Aww, would be awesome to get something more than texture changing ...

You could fiddle around with a Hex editor... As soon as you've figured it out, post away so others can follow.

Edit: Always make a copy of the original files!

It's certainly possible, but definitely not an easy thing to do. And it may not be sufficient to alter the model vertex coordinates because there's the animations and texture mapping as well.

It's an old-fashioned hacker job, you'll need a lot of patience and wit. It's maybe smarter to code a model viewer first. But that's also not easy.

If you accomplish this, be prepared to become a legendary member of the Lugaru modding hall of fame, not unlike Silb or levbot.

Because anyone who accomplished such a feat would of course add cows to the game?

There are cows in the game already. They're in the secret level.

Can someone tell me about the secret cow level?
Is this a joke, or really a true thing?

Of course it's in the game. Beat it on Insane mode and score 50000 points without dying and you can access it. Try turning on the editor and just generating enemies each level and punching them over and over, with different attacks. A bit tedious but worth it!

It has to be a joke..a "secret cow level"? Just say it out loud.

But if it's not...I want to play! :(
