Overgrowth.....on steam?

Post by cachiporrin » Sun Oct 26, 2008 9:25 am

Hi everyone it has been more than a year since my last post here, but I am glad to come back.2 months ago my uncle gave me half life 2. When I installed it, I had to download something called "steam ". At the beginning, I didn't know what steam was, but then I discovered how cool it is, and I bought more games. Last week I saw that a game called "world of goo" was released, (19.99$) and it really isn't that good, I said to myself ("Why is this game here! it sucks!, overgrowth should be here, it deserves it more").

So, I was thinking....if overgrowth was on steam:

1) More people would discover the game
2) It would be easier to buy for people like me (its harder for my to pay using paypal)
3) More people would buy it

So, my main question is.....
Is there any chance for overgrowth to be released through steam?

EDIT: Ok, ok, I have to accept it, World of goo doesn't suck but what I mean is that Overgrowth rocks

Oh hi cachiporrin, welcome back!

And yeah, that's an interesting point. What'd the costs be to get OG on there in the first place, actually?

World of Goo is awesome.

Also, we contacted Steam and haven't heard back yet. We'd love to get on there.

Update: Steam finally got back to us. They want to know how many fans we have. :!:

What about the community?

Post by mphasis » Sun Oct 26, 2008 8:49 pm

Won't that create a division in the community??
Steam has it's own community.

Personally I'm still all for it, steam could get Overgrowth out to the world, on hundreds of thousands of computers, like it should be.

OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!

That is pretty ironic. So what's their target anyway? You have to have 500 fans in order to get Overgrowth on Steam?

Yeah, it's pretty weird. Especially because our community is growing all the time. So like one day Steam might say you are too small to get on Steam. Then later on after you have doubled, "Oh, now we can publish the exact same game we rejected a few weeks earlier!"

I am sure it will work out though. :)

Frankly, we are honored to even have Steam return our email (albeit very slowly). I remember seeing an indie petition circulating earlier because Steam wouldn't even acknowledge the existence of some other indie games.

Jeff's answer:
"How many fans do YOU have!?"

That way you won't lose face and they'll think that you're cool ;) It's all playground politics...

Personally, I'd like to see 100% of the profits going towards Wolfire, but if its a way to get a much larger player base then I suppose thats ok. Still, if they only want to know how many fans Wolfire has, its a clear sign they're only in it for the money.

Ofcourse

Why do you think there are so many crappy games that are in a way I like to call "Disposable"?

I'm gonna quote John and just say "It's getting steamy". We are about to sign an NDA to hear more about Steam, so we won't be able to talk to you guys much more about it, but we are pretty excited. :)
