I went to config.txt
I changed debug's 0 to 1
I saved
I threw out the original
I converted it into txt
I opened lugaru
shift+m does nothing
how can I get debug on?

Try other keys like F and N, see if they work.
Make sure "Text" is on or you might not notice the map editor is engaged, you should see some lines on the ground for AI pathing and some text in the bottom left of your screen, thats it.

nope, they all don't work. I also tried shift+ everything

Is the file that has Debug set to 1 called config.txt? If not, it is likely that it created another one with the defaults

Did you use text edit? If so, did you convert it to plain text format before you saved it?
