Twitter!

Post by Renegade_Turner » Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:42 pm

Yes, yes, I know, I'm an extremely late arriver to this completely obnoxious fad, but I can't help it, it's fun!

Here's Wolfire's twitter, which I think is controlled by Jeff: http://twitter.com/Wolfire

Here's my Twitter: http://twitter.com/Andyisonfire

Everyone else post theirs. =P

I refuse to join myself to such mindless... er...
I refuse to say twitter at this point.

...damn.

In any case, I'm steering clear of such things for as long as possible. It's bad enough that Wolfire forced me to make a facebook account. I shall not bend like so any longer, lest it be absolutely necessary.
...It also seems to have taken me five tries to spell necessary right. I'm out of practice.

I'm with Glabbit on this one.

It's a huge time sink with no real benefits.

8:30 AM - Just woke up
8:31 AM - Brushed teeth
8:32 AM - Got dressed
8:35 AM - Ate breakfast
8:36 AM - Am sitting on a couch now
8:40 AM - Laying down now instead of sitting
8:42 AM - Started up Counter Strike
8:45 AM - Quit Counter Strike because of hackers and noobs
8:46 AM - I breathed
8:51 AM - Just burped
8:56 AM - I heard a bird singing
8:59 AM - Speculating on the meaning of life
9:01 AM - Have concluded that life is meaningless
9:03 AM - Set up the noose and the chair
9:04 AM - Am about to kick out the chair, last Tweet here
9:09 AM - Rope broke, fell and hit my head and lay there dazed a bit
9:11 AM - Decided to become a furry

That's a pretty good one.

I do enjoy people being non-conformist for the sake of being different.

Can we have less people bemoaning the existence of Twitter and more people who actually use it?

I am. It's a cool way to follow people you otherwise wouldn't hear anything about. Like members or ex-members of your favourite bands to see what they're up to.

Examples:

Jonathan Mess, ex-vocalist for Dance Gavin Dance: http://twitter.com/JonMess
Jonny Craig, vocalist of Emarosa: http://twitter.com/jonnycraig4L
Alex Bigman, vocalist of Fight Fair: http://twitter.com/alexbigman

Wolfire Blog wrote:Twitter seemed pretty dubious at first. However, more and more people have started following us and now its value is hard to dispute. Twitter is unique from other pages because it offers a good medium for you to meet your peers in the industry in addition to accumulating fans. Twitter is at worst an alternative to your blog’s RSS feed, but at best, it’s a great way to keep people up to date more rapidly and lets you communicate with tons of other game developers.

Tips: Don’t just link to yourself like an RSS bot, use Twitter to communicate with people.
Good point, Wolfire.

Yes, spending all your time on this Forum by comparison is clearly ten times more rewarding.

I'd like to say something like "Ren 1, Untadike 0" here, but since we've been here longer than that, it's probably something like:
Ren: Lots, Everyone else: A Lot Less
