Downtime Impending

Hi guys, IRC, BitTorrent, the forum, etc. will be offline for a period tonight while I update the Linux distribution the server uses to the latest and greatest. I'm expecting around 30-60 minutes of downtime, most likely around 12am Pacific Time. Update delayed until the night of June 9 . Apologies ...

Forum Updated

Howdy guys, I've gone ahead and updated the forum to the latest and greatest phpBB iteration (3.0.9). I've toyed around with everything to and haven't noticed any problems, but if you do encounter any please let me know here so I can whack the bugs with the appropriately sized electric zappers. Than...

Re: Spam problems

I've just nuked several thousand old-growth spammer accounts; this should hopefully curtail the spam problem for the foreseeable future. Please continue to use this topic to alert me to any spammers as they appear; if the problem returns (or if my sending the spammers back to their god en masse does...

Re: Spam problems

I've made some changes over the last few days that seem to have been mostly effective at preventing spam users from registering. The spam activity currently being seen is a result of users who registered before these changes were made; if you post the usernames here I will take care of them. I am cu...

Re: Spam problems

There are quite a few free, community-based ban databases our there, for example this one , based on which for example registration requires approval. The problem with DNSBL-type solutions is that they have the tendency to produce a non-trivial number of false positives; this can be quite aggravati...

Re: Spam problems

I guess I will start off my first post in this thread. I don't even see why people would even want to spam that in a gaming forum since most people aren't dumb enough to click on the links. It's all about pagerank and backlinks, generally. Anyone clicking on the links is just gravy as far as the bo...
