I kicked the resolution down to 640x480 and the menus run way faster, but still 'strobe' and lag horribly. (It took several minutes to close the game before, and now I can do it in, oh...45 seconds?) I think you're right, StaffShock. I know XP eats memory like cotton candy... I actually told a lie: ...

Playing problems
I used to play Lugaru on Windows 98 SE, and that worked very nicely. There was little to no lag, menus were fast, animations were smooth. Then I switched to XP and it went all to hell. No change in specs, obviously, but... I install the game, and run it. The red 'flash' takes several seconds to comp...

The Marathon Subdiscussion
1.) Shouldn't this be its own thread? 2.) Everyone has a right to their own opinion; no need to get hotheaded over what someone else thinks about a game you like. Say that Final Fantasy (i.e. the first RPG [my preferred genre of game] I ever played) sucks and I'd just smile and nod. No 'imho' (in my...

Mm. You should be able to install it off of your HDD. Copy all of the files off of the discs and install them, one at a time. If a file refuses to copy, the scratch you mentioned is almost certainly to blame. If you're using a basic CD/DVD-ROM but HAVE a CDR-WR/DVDR-WR, try using that instead. If it...

Many moons ago, there was Yahoo! Chat. There were communities where people - real people - would gather and speak of the unspeakable, learn the unknowable, and make sure there was always a friendly troll to ward off unsuspecting newbies. It was there that I met 'Avete', which some of you may recogni...

Yikes. First game... I don't remember if that's Mario Bros. for the NES, or Atari Baseball. Mario Bros./Baseball -> Final Fantasy -> Legend of Zelda -> Castlevania/Adventures of Lolo -> Zelda 3: Link To the Past... I was 3-4 when I beat Final Fantasy. Mom taught my brothers and I how to read very ea...

Re: Perfect leg cannon
That's true; I phrased that poorly. I meant that only as a score-related thing. Wolf Slayer is worth 300; bullseye is worth only 30. The quickest I've ever defeated a (lone) wolf was a double-punch, feetsweeper, kick, and leg cannon into a wall. If there are two wolves, or a wolf and a bunny, leg ca...

Re: Perfect leg cannon
I've been trying to work out the perfect leg cannon, something you can pull out at a moment's notice to ice wolves fast. So far, I've been getting them more thru luck than skill. Any suggestions on that score? How to tell when you're both positioned right, etc? Okay, there are thee ways I've found ...
