I haven't seen the new one, but the old one was good and the cornyness was pretty funny.

I think I remember reading somewhere that part of why it was renamed was because of the fact that naming it Lugaru 2 would alienate the people who hadn't played the first one, and also so that the first Lugaru would be more of a proof of concept than a full fledged predecessor to Overgrowth.
