Re: "Winning" a fight
Skyrim, like many games, rewards mercilessness with game resources, but this paradigm can be turned on its head. Take Bloodlines for instance: the player has a "humanity" resource which is decreased when they kill innocents, and a "blood" resource, which is filled by feeding off ...

"Winning" a fight
I wanted to discuss this and this quickly, as well as this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwDzcE3mNco In the scene, Ip Man needs to win against the masters to show his worthiness, but without badly injuring or humiliating them. Especially interesting is that the fight ends without either of the two...

Re: Overgrowth on linux
I feel like we're going round and round in circles, though perhaps because of the misinformation circling around that the Linux client works. Perhaps there should be a better organised ressource somewhere for which (if any) versions of the alpha have worked on which versions of Wine, etc. Or maybe w...

I would moderate this but I'm really jetlagged - could somebody else move/delete/whatever?

Re: Overgrowth on linux
No it's not there from day one, but that is not on its own a reason for concern. I disagree, but I guess there's no point going round and round in circles over it. Your first two links are to Wolfire. Your last one is to an entirely different developer. My point was: "many developers, in a man...

Re: Overgrowth on linux
The "we just don't know" argument is a non-argument: a badly-designed nuclear power-plant might not explode, but good engineers prepare for the worst- not the best- or even the most likely situation. I'm not speculating, I'm performing risk analysis, and leaving a port to stagnate is risky...

Re: Overgrowth on linux
I can see how that is true for an XNA game or a WiiWare title which requires major retooling to be ported to Linux. However, I'm curious what kind of cruft would exist for a cross-platform Mac OS X + Windows game based on open standards. The beauty of the internet is that earnestness and vitriol ar...

Re: Overgrowth on linux
I think at this point we've all invested more than just money to this project - the price paid to pre-order is negligible really. And it's certainly true that now that we're in this situation it makes a lot more sense to move ahead rather than trying to retro-fit everything. That said merely porting...

Re: Overgrowth on linux
The waiting for a Linux client the past half year was due to Awesomium not being available for Linux. It is now, however. I know, but that just means a more judicious choosing (and/or re-choosing) of libraries should really have been in order after the first few months. edit: the above sentence mak...

Re: Overgrowth on linux
I'm not sure how you can be programming in C++ using OpenGL and not have a Linux port by default. I mean, I feel guilty about there not being a Mac alpha for my game (yet) but that's because I can't afford a Mac. But there's no excuse not to have a Linux partition to play around because it literally...

Re: Suggestion: visiting your house?
I´m pretty much against this idea of inventories and load out system. IMO you shouldn't be able to bring weapons between levels at all, you should have to make do with salvaged weapons picked up during playing the level. Or in some cases a specified starting weapon. Hmmm... Well, I do quite like ho...

Re: Suggestion: visiting your house?
In Hitman 2 you had this tool-shed with a collection of weapons up on the wall: http://i49.tinypic.com/b70y8i.png At the start of the mission you could take some with you, those you left behind would be lost and those you exited the mission with would then appear in the shed. Interesting system :)

Rather like Hitman then?Precastwig wrote:How about a crackdown style thing, where you store weapons you find from your enemies, As you progress, the harder the enemies the better weapons you find, yet you can still miss an enemy's weapon if it breaks during the fight or something?

Re: Suggestion: visiting your house?
I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean :? You don't spend any kind of money at the stores. It would basically just work as the house idea, no money involved, it's purely for the sake of immersion. Say every time you'd finished a mission there'd be a shop in some nearby town. That would requi...
