Theoretically, you could fix that by going into the options menu, and moving the gun further from the player(Theoretically).

You can use any program that can export to file extensions Unity supports, e.g: 3ds, obj, etc. 2.Model the map, import it into the game(via the source/Unity) then fill it with light/item spawns as children(meaning a child of the parent object, meaning, your model.) then you add it into the level ...

Each of the weapons has the same chance of spawning if I remember correctly. You're just unlucky.

While the majority of Receiver was written with Javascript, it was built using Unity, which allows mixing and matching languages.

Those models from portal are not even near complicated enough, plus there's the issues of porting them over from the source engine to Unity.

EDIT: Most of the other options are rather easily configurable if you look at the source code.
