Re: Choose Your Weapon!
I wuv longsword... :D I agree with the general point you're making Endoperez, but I'd just as easily argue that the katana and longsword would be the same weapon class if the game isn't going to focus especially hard on more advanced techniques (which it may not since we're after a quick and strongl...

Re: Modder Protection
I'd say this is better handled by a strong anti-spoiler policy on the forums. Have some form of format or sub-forum where discussing spoiler materials is allowed and simply ban it from the rest of the forum. That at least in theory should reduce it to an avoidable level for those that still want to ...

Re: The SPF, speculation and dissent
The thing I'm really hoping for, when I do one of these essay-type posts, is that somebody will come along with a conflicting view, pick my arguments apart and suggest something better. And that's exactly the way things should be :) I knew I liked you for a reason. I've got to say I understand comp...

Re: Combat controls thread
xbox version is nothing like one I'm talking about, though it might have some similar parts. Sword of the Samurai (aka Kengo 2) hit a pretty decent balance I thought overall. You could get one-hit kills, but they could be escaped most of the time if you paid attention. Good game, easy controls hard ...

Re: Combat controls thread
Similar in concept to the second Kengo game. Holding X put you into a pure warding stance, where you would intercept blows coming at you, but you were constantly on the back foot and gained no advantage - and eventually you'd be put off balance and your guard broken. However, timed blocks would crea...

Re: You're just so Context-Sensitive!
My intention for the counter-attack was a very specific timing that would require you to wait almost until hit - if you attack too early or in a near-simultaneous strike you're just attacking as normal, not making a purposeful reaction, and will thus be slower and get your head caved in. That said, ...

Re: You're just so Context-Sensitive!
I see what you're saying, but I suppose I'd like the option for something more lethal but much harder to pull off. Essentially a counter-attack is striking during a vulnerable moment, and I think having an extra option for higher-risk with higher-reward wouldn't be a bad thing. It's been a while sin...

Re: OG backstory
Science isn't supposed to be an ideology at all, which is where I take issue with the comparison. Anyone stating ethical or moral principles on the back of science isn't talking science. Science isn't about peoples or cultures, or right or wrong, or you or me. So I agree with you, except this far. A...

Re: OG backstory
The only thing you can blame for people killing each other, is people. The particular banner they choose is more or less meaningless.

Re: OG backstory
I hope they keep it ambiguous. If the denizens of this world don't know then I think its better to keep it that way. Different groups might have different opinions on the past anyway and that's a great way to build up differences between the species and even sub-cultures within the same species. In ...

Re: You're just so Context-Sensitive!
I've spend some time reading this thread, going over my own experience (such as it is) and the pros/cons and I think I've come to an interesting conclusion. In western martial arts (long sword for example), there is only the attack and counter-attack. There are no blocks, no pure defence. Even setti...

Re: Combat controls thread
I was thinking back to other fighting games I've played and the current control scheme. Right now we have three stances (passive, defensive and offensive) plus the grapple/hold and crouching. I think, it would be nice to see these directly represented with the appropriate stances for the style. If a...

Re: Fluid Animations in OG
That was kind of the point of the physics-based animation system. I'm sure it'll require a decent set of keyframes to do it smoothly, but that's exactly what the current physics animation does. Of course I've not seen the current state of the animation editor so I don't know if the two are interconn...

Re: Combat controls thread
Batman definitely works better with a pad IMO, although the PC control layout was surprisingly competent for a secondary method. If possible I'd like Overgrowth to support the 360 for Windows pad. Not crucial by any means, but it would be a nice touch even if it was added in a patch post-development...
