Every time you consciously recognize an advertisement. You now are going to think of tampons.
Why? because I just suggested it.
Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant. Elephant.
What are you thinking about?
Elephants.

That reminds me of a joke I once heard.
"What do elephants use as tampons?"
Answer: Sheep.
...
What?

Assaultman: whenever you see tampons or think of tampons you will imagine Santa Claus cramming a Twinkie up his rectum and groaning in pleasure every time he does it.

Oh fuck you
But anyways, I assume you all get my point.
Its extremely easy to implant suggestions in people and people have very little control over blocking out the annoying.

Not really. I saw a bunch of advertisements after reading that post and not once did anything even remotely related to tampons pop into my head. It's different from "TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT A BEAR, GO". That's an immediate situation in which my short term memory and subconscious are forcing me to think about bears. But if I look at your idiot suggestion of "Oh durhur tampons" and then see an ad 30 minutes later (or hell, 3 minutes later), I'm not going to think about tampons. It's not on my mind at the moment and there's nothing to trigger it.
tl;dr -> That's a very simplistic, naive, and plain wrong idea of how suggestions work.
tl;tl;dr -> Urdoinitrong.

Then by that logic all advertisements are ineffective because they don't go into long term memory.
It does work. Some people do remember (but obviously not simple minded people with the memory span of a gold fish)
(also, please note that i raised this up (or lowered it) to the level of "indirect insult" in response to your "indirect insult" ... try not to charge the debate

)
(edit: maybe i charged the debate when I said "oh fuck you

" in a dismissing disgusted manner to that imagery that grayswandir suggested

)
Earlier, I said "consciously recognize" ... simply seeing an advertisement casually would be unlikely to trigger it, but the possibility is still there.
Even consciously recognizing it may not trigger a response. (It actually depends on the emotional state you were in when the suggestion was ... well suggested)

We know what an advertisement is...Oh hey Coke Zero, this makes me want to buy Coke Zero...and tampons....OH GOD, SANTA CLAUS SHOVING TWINKIES UP HIS BUM!!!
That's actually a pretty cool effect on the side of the trailer there. I like the whole, "Frozen in a block of ice" look that the design gives.

So in a short summary, Assaultman67 is stupid.
OK, moving on. Haven't picked up a copy of this game yet, but I'm hoping to maybe get it sometime in May.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my father one time where he adamantly maintained that advertising never affects him in any way, shape or form. I scoffed at this and my expectations of age correlating to wisdom lowered significantly.
Of course, any one of us with any sort of common sense know that advertising has an effect on people. Also, any one of us with common sense will realise that just because we've consciously acknowledged some advertising does not mean that we have to act upon that. The unfortunate thing is that common sense isn't common.
I know that I'm affected by advertising as we all are every day. You'd have to be a hermit with no form of communication with the outside world to not be affected. However, this doesn't mean I unwillingly buy things which I don't really have the money for. I see things advertised that I want, and I buy them because the advertisement has put the knowledge of that product in my head. It's not some sort of knee-jerk response that I see a convincing advertisement and say "Oh god I need it." If that were true I'd drink Coor's Light or Heineken because the advertisements are fantastic...but I don't because they're too expensive and I don't want them because of that.
