Pretty good post that sums up everything. The only disagreement I have is that you don't stop wanting something if its too expensive. You still want it, you just cant afford it.

That's actually a pretty cool effect on the side of the trailer there. I like the whole, "Frozen in a block of ice" look that the design gives.

My loins, they dribble in anticipation.
Its already happened to me a few times yesterday :| :x

Interestingly enough i saw one advertisement yesterday and thought along the lines of

"Oh, an advertisement ... wait, this reminds me of something ... dildos? ... no. Condoms? ... no ... oh yea, tampons. ... sigh ... santa claus."

Why not make a new Portal 2 thread and rename this one?

Why not stop being such a Buzz Killington?

Did I say that? I can't recall. It doesn't sound like something I'd say...

If anything, it destroys the realistic expectation of such products. I'd love a PS3, but I had the money for one after my 21st birthday. I had 500 euros. Over that actually. Half of that could have bought the PS3. But I knew that the money could be better going towards other things. And when I bore that in mind, not having a PS3 was grand. I was happy. It's not like the absence of that product in my life weighs me down every day. Then I'd be a very weak individual altogether.

So it's not that you stop wanting things because you don't have the money for them. It's just that, if you're smart and have any sort of a head on your shoulders, you reason that longing for something which you can't currently acquire is meaningless folly and your time is better spent worrying about things you can affect, and ways to spend your time meaningfully.

I know I'm glossing back over points in some instances but sometimes you have to repeat the same points in different ways to get your...point across. I phrased that immaculately!

Anyway, for me personally, it's not that I stop wanting things because I can't afford them, it's because my mind tells me "It's ridiculous to long for such a thing, you've nowhere near enough money!" and I just end up not ever thinking about it. I figure it's a defense mechanism of the human mind. If we were always obsessed with acquiring possessions, and couldn't strike things we want but can't have from our minds, then we'd probably go mad or something.

The Gaben is reading this thread and leaning back in his silver-plated chair in his house made of imported chocolate, sighing contentedly and pressing the "Delay Episode 3" button before retiring to his mattress filled with gold dust and whale oil, making sure to take off his diamond pendant, its leather straps cured with his fan's tears.

Seriously? I was just being a prick and mocking you.

Honestly, I have to agree with Andy here.

Yea it happened a couple of times yesterday ...

not so much today though :?

Although its not as if I didn't realize why I thought that. I knew its because I said it on the wolfire forums.

And I didn't exactly think of the visual imagery that you suggested. Just the word "santa claus" associated with a mixture of disguist and humor. :?

(also I as I briefly said before that these suggestions are more effective depending on if you're in an emotional state. And I do feel pretty strongly that advertisement is bad :P . Ironically this could be why i keep remembering advertisements long after ive seen them, simply because i get annoyed when I see them ... such an endless cycle!)

But really I'm not sure how you guys managed to avoid it ... especially when similar things have been done and are quite common such as "the game"

The opera part was pretty dang neat but I wouldn't say anything beats "still alive". Unless you are referring to Portal and not Portal 2 already.

I think the ending provides a really great feeling of redemption from the hell of aperture laboratories.

But you know there will probably be a portal 3 ... so valve will probably nullify this excellent ending for a series ... meh :? . I guess they did leave "holes" for a new portal. Such as the mystery of chell's parents.

That's kinda a problem with western TV, video games, etc. They just don't know where to stop, they run through everything they have and then they start making up new stuff just to keep the franchise going.

Im guessing in portal 3 there will be a space station lab that wheatley takes over (then again the voice actor for wheatley has said that he doesn't want to do another portal :/)

Well I think we may have that covered already, the following is the ending song's lyrics:
cara bel, cara mia bella!
Mia bambina, oh ciel (Chell)!
Che ella stima!
Che ella stima!
Oh cara mia, addio!
La mia bambina cara...
perché non passi lontana?
Sì, lontana da Scïenza,
cara, cara mia bambina...
Ah, mia bella!
Ah, mia cara!
Ah, mia cara!
Ah, mia bambina!
Oh cara, cara mia...
Which translates into
My beautiful dear, my darling beauty!
My baby, oh Chell!
That she holds her in such esteem!
That she holds her in such esteem!
Oh my beloved, fare thee well!
My dear child...
Why don't you walk away?
Yes, away from Science!
My dear, dear baby...
Ah, my beauty!
Ah, my dear!
Ah, my dear!
Ah, my li'l girl!
Oh my dearest one!
I'm not sure valve would take that story any further rather than have these suggestive answers lying around to fill the holes.
