Hey here's a new game, it's called
penumbra, it's this free First Person survival horror game that features state of the art graphics and aims to explore new uses for physics (well that's basically the description it gets, I think i just coppied it). The games pretty cool, for people who had any interests in games like, I dunno, Crimson room or even something like FEAR (though fear is more shooting and springy scary). It's got alot of simple puzzles involving item combinations and the way you interact with objects. For example, the first thing you see are lockers now it's cool because you actually have to grab and pull open the lockers with your mouse (pretty much everything is like this, levers especially. I don't really know why oblivion didn't do this).
Then you get special effects like your flashlight, which is just really cool to wave around. It somehow hangs loosely in your hand so you get this nice waving motion whenever you look around and stuff. And then there's an option of motion blur which, since I can't compare it to anything else, looks really nice. It stretches out images to give you this nice cinematic feel when you run through hall ways.
This game was finished in April 2006, but just got released on
MegaGames recently, like four days ago.

Ok, indie games aside for now,
Call of Juarez is looking like a real awesome western first person shooter. It's this current-generation game, but it just looks real nice. It's got a sling of cool gameplay elements.
The first is fire, it's pretty basic really, but the cool thing about it is that it spreads out and looks really engaging. The levels pit you in old western buildings where the enemies set it on fire, and you have to escape, they start out as small fires but can completely engulf the entire building by spreading along walls and over furnature. The cool thing is how they are interactive, you can pick up hard liquor while you're fighting and throw it on the ground, it stains the ground and if you shoot it, it will spark and cause the fire, which pretty much spreads everwhere from what I saw. You can also stop fires by splashing buckets of water on them.
There's a bunch of neat wild, wild west tricks like gun fanning and quick draws, but there's also things like whips. The player used the whip to kill a snake, but more importantly he is able to hook it to things like branches. The guy used the whip to help him repel up the mountain, which just looked awesome.
And then there's other things like fluid horseback riding and even hunting. You are given a bow and can hunt down rabbits and stuff, they dart from bush to bush (although I'm not sure if hunting is necessary, he had to hunt rabbits for a quest. If that's the only time you can hunt... that would kinda suck).
Call of Juarez - Ubisoft, Techland
Genre: Historic First-Person Shooter
Release Date: September 2006

It is sooooo good, it has: Ge-Force 7800GTX, Dual 3giga hertz pentium 4, 2Gig ram, PhysX PPU, Fiber optics instead of those big grey thick cables going everywhere, liquid cooling and a power supply to keep it all cool. He got it free. I nearly shat myself.

Do you mean Duke Nukem Forever?
There is no such thing as Half Life 3. Half Life 2 : Episode One just came out. It will be followed by Episode Two and Episode Three.

Have you not played Half Life 2 : Episode One? That came out earlier this month. Also, Half Life 2 : Episode Two is scheduled for Spring 2007 or something, I think. Not sure.

Actually, the release date for games published via Steam is a worldwide release date. That should be pretty obvious.
Edit: And there were posts deleted above mine. Which is not so obvious. Censorship?

! thats crazy! not a single soul has been talking about it

Its such a letdown, I was hoping for the same improvements from hl to hl2 to be made again! (Although, that is nearly impossible, they should have hired dave)

HL2: ep1 is basically just HL2, except backwards. Start at the citadel and fight your way out, instead of the other way around.

I'm enjoying the game. I think if you enjoyed the game, Episode One is a lot of fun too. I don't give a shit if it's not vastly improved or anything, but I suppose I'm not too picky about that kind of thing. The game is so good already, it's hard to make it much better.

Hey, as a side note
That indie game I mentioned above, guess who did the sound for it?
Mikko Tarmia! That's pretty neat isn't it?
It's the Penumbra mysterey horror game. They did their own engine and got Mikko to help with the sound.

I'm not sure but, I think he helped out on some of the music for Lugaru. For sure, he's one of the orignal artists signed up to work on Lugaru 2. Him and Houseman have worked together on some projects so they mention each other at their site- oh yeah! I'll just link their news page
