So I've basically spent my entire day watching the E3 GT.tv-live stream from 9am to about 6:45pm (PDT). It was packed with interesting news like updates for already announced releases, new games for the Kinect, all-new handheld devices, more games for the Kinect, non-splitscreen local multiplayer TV-screens... and did I mention games for the Kinect?
E3, Total Video Footage, Page 1-5 has most of the footage of what was presented the at the expo.
Highlights: (The numbers no longer makes sense)
- Mass Effect 3 (54 m)
- Gears of War 3 (1h 14m 30s)
- Halo: Combat Evolved remastered (1h 22m 30s)
- Halo 4 (2h 00m 20s)
- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim (2h 18m)
- Arkham City (2h 34m)
- Overstrike (4h 16m)
- Battlefield 3 (4h 19m 40s)
- Far Cry 3 (5h 51m 30s)
- Assassins Creed: Revalations (6h 38m)
- The Darkness 2 (7h 4m 30s)
- Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (8h 30m)
- Bioshock: Infinite (9h 12m 20s)
- Playstation Vita (9h 31m)
- Street Fighter X Tekken (9h 50m 30s)
Also,
- God of War (The PSP-games),
- Ico & Shadow of The Colossus remastered for the PS3. (8h 45m 30s)
- Sony's PlayStation-branded 3D Display (8h 46m 30s)
Now, I want your thoughts. What did you think were the most notable release to be presented during this first day, and what are you looking forward to for tomorrows presentations? Personally, I've a truly fanboy-ish love for Team Ico, and would love to see some brand new footage of the upcoming game "The Last Guardian", I've been following this release for a while and that would truly satisfy my cravings from this expo.
Sweet Jesus' holy shit on toast. Remember that awesome 10-minute "gameplay" trailer they put out? Apparently they weren't kidding. Can't wait to see the full demonstration.
(Okay, I just can't resist pointing this out. "That is an oath you cannot keep" is an awkward line to say. It should have been, "That is not a promise you can keep.")
...
- Mass Effect 3. Yes please.
They've shown a bunch of stuff, but the really meaty parts are here and here. Oh hey, a female Krogan. Hidden from view. You coy bastards.
It's nice to see all the returning characters.
Bioware, here's my damn money. Just take it!
...
- Skyrim. The gameplay demo got me from ambivalent to interested. Not much more to say.
Those are the only three I'm genuinely interested in. As for the rest, a whole load of crap with a handful of possible gems.
- New Tomb Raider actually looks mildly promising. A few too many screams and way too many QTEs, but who knows, it might actually make the series interesting again.
- Prey 2 looked... sorta alright. Corny as all hell and visually shit, but the gameplay had a certain something.
- Halo 4... Microsoft, please drop the spade and step away from the headstone.
I'd link more material, but the GT website is being a pain in the arse right now, presumably due to high traffic. Also, my housemates have finally stopped fucking like bunnies in the next room, so I'm going to take the opportunity to get some much-needed sleep.

Battlefield 3 gameplay was absolutely breath-taking.
Modern Warfare 3 gameplay was laughable. The mission they demonstrated that starts underwater is almost identical to one from MW2. They haven't changed the engine since COD4 (except to add gore in COD5), and it's really showing. Graphics improved over Black Ops, but on the same level as MW2- ie, maintaining the status quo. Some of the announced perks and equipments sound like total bollocks that will ruin an already unbalanced and easily exploited multiplayer mode.
Skyrim. Squee.
Bioshock Infinite. <3
After watching the E3 trailer for Ace Combat Assault Horizon, I had to go change my shorts.
Uncharted 3. Oh god, yes.
Mass Effect 3. Sweet Jesus.
Halo 4. Microsoft, step away from the cash horse. I'm pretty sure you beat it to death with Halo 3.
Halo: Combat Evolved remake. At first, I was anticipating it, but then I realized, "It'll be the same thing, only with HD graphics and destructible vehicles in multiplayer. Whoop-de-doo." Can't really see what will be added that would make it worth buying again.
Ico + Shadow of The Colossus remaster. Anticipating that more than the Halo remaster because I've never played Ico, so being able to get both games in an HD package is quite an incentive for me, personally.
Looking forward to more information on the Sony NGP, Assault Horizon, and Resistance 3 in the coming days.

A good question, that is.
So, what exactly was announced on the second day, except for the Wii-U?
I couldn't help but notice that there were nothing of interest.

So that's what they called it? I was hoping for Pii. Oh well, if it turns out to be junk at least people will be able to call it the Wii-on-U.
Hurr hurr.
(Sorry, had to get that one out of my system.)

Wish it had more gameplay, but looks nice as is. I like the tragic atmosphere of the trailer. The previous games tried to instill a sort of doomsday feeling, but I don't think it ever had a huge impact- there were always survivors, even entire armies, to work with, and at this point, it seems that the few remaining survivors are mostly civilians. It actually feels like you're stacked up against impossible odds at this point.

I stopped watching at, "Now it's time... to take it all back."
Gah! The... the... sheer undiluted corniness of it! Watching that actually manages to make me feel slightly embarrassed. They have this grim, grey, serious and tragic vibe going on, then they kick it in the nuts with lines straight out of a action movie from the 80s.
It's made even worse by being so predictable.
Him: "Now it's time...[pause]"
Me: (thinking) "Oh gawd, please don't say, "to take it all back.""
Him: "... to take it all back."
Me: *close video*
Y'know what? Game developers should hire people called Corniness Editors. It can be their job to read through scripts and attend voiceover recordings. Whenever they encounter something unbearably corny, they hit the person responsible with an axe haft.
Hell, I'll offer my services as one such. I could start with Bioware, God only knows that they need one. Although in their case it's partly because most of the dialogue is good. So when the corny lines strikes, and strike they most certainly do, it comes out of the blue and hits you right between the eyes.
PS. Incidentally, I saw some gameplay footage for Resistance 3 earlier. I'd like to tell you about it, but I was having trouble making out any details amid the sea of undiluted grey.

Zhukov, don't make such a big deal out of one line. You take game critique in general a bit too seriously. Sure, I thought that part was more than a little corny and groaned a little inside when I heard it, but if you let an ultimately insignificant detail ruin the entire trailer (or in extension, game) you're being overly dramatic. And/or a Killjoy. Or Buzzkill. You're a dramatic buzzkilljoy.

Oh goodie, you mean it's not all brown?

The term you're searching for is "standards."
And don't worry, it's not just games. I have them with movies and books as well.
