Yes, the English dub is terrible. The English dub for Full Metal Alchemist is not as bad, but still pretty bad. The subtitled episodes are the better ones.

Yeah, the Prince Of Tennis subs on YouTube are done by the free fansub site, "animeotakus.com", but they still do not translate some of the dialogue properly. I can tell by having gotten used to a few of the word sounds for certain words like "no" and stuff. Interestingly, the Japanese version of "no" sounds exactly like "Yeah".

On a related topic, has anyone ever seen Battle Royale?

It's a film about a Japanese grade school class that gets sent to an island, and are forced to kill each other for their survival, each given their own weapons to start with. It must be one of the greatest films ever. The first and second film are both on YouTube (broken up into about 12 parts).

The film is in Japanese with English subtitles, not dubbed. However, it does not make all of the teenagers amazingly skilled or anything, like some other films may have done. Only a couple are skilled (this one guy called Kiriyama is a badass).

But it's not just an action film at all. It has elements of action, romance, horror (in terms of being horrified by the film, and disgusted by what happens to some of the characters) etc. It's not a poorly-done film by any means, because it portrays the characters realistically and you could see yourself reacting the same way in the situation.

Overall, I rate this film as one of the best I've ever seen. Check it out on YouTube. The film's parts will come up as "Battle Royale (Part 1)" then "Battle Royale (Part 2)" etc. all the way up to Part 12, if you want to watch. NOTE : THE TITLES WILL BE EXACTLY AS I HAVE LISTED, AND IF THEY ARE NOT, YOU'RE WATCHING A SEQUENCE OF PARTS WHICH THE USER DID NOT FULLY UPLOAD. (There's a few users who uploaded the first 40 or 50 minutes of film, but not the rest.)

Battle Royale 2 is also on YouTube, but I have yet to watch it.

My sister (age 22, not my little sister, which I don't have) is re-reading Battle Royale, I was going to read it, but decided to read Angels and Demons instead. Maybe after I get over the ending of Lord of The Flies I'll read it... after I finish reading Children of The Mind.

....Screw it I'm watching the movie instead.

Ok, just finished part 2, before I go on, will there be broken bones?

I'm fine with the neck explosion, knife through head and other things like that, but broken bones just freak me out.

Ok gorey, but no broken bones. What a freak movie. Good though.

It's amazing. Absolutely stunning. Watched the second film. It does not have as much zing as the original, which I presumed before I watched it because sequels to cult films are rarely as good as the original. The original had a freshness and diversity that set it apart from other films. The second film changed the system of the film to some degree, which one might argue is straying from what made the original good, but if it had stayed the same and changed nothing, people would say that it was just a reiteration of the original with different characters. Two great films however.

Another example of a cult film spawning a film which many regarded to be sub-par was the Matrix, which I may or may have not mentioned previously on these forums. I, for one, think that if you liked the original, saying that the sequel was terrible is idiotic. The people who like the original and say the sequels were terrible are just saying that because they feel that the sequel HAS to be on par with the original. Needless to say, some of the magic and novelty of the original will likely have worn off by the time you watch the second film, but that's still no reason to dismiss the sequel as a bad film.

Of course, I'm not a great judge of film quality anyway, because I will watch a lot of things. I just say anything I didn't stop watching halfway through is a good film.
