Yes, the English dub is terrible. The English dub for Full Metal Alchemist is not as bad, but still pretty bad. The subtitled episodes are the better ones.
On a related topic, has anyone ever seen Battle Royale?
It's a film about a Japanese grade school class that gets sent to an island, and are forced to kill each other for their survival, each given their own weapons to start with. It must be one of the greatest films ever. The first and second film are both on YouTube (broken up into about 12 parts).
The film is in Japanese with English subtitles, not dubbed. However, it does not make all of the teenagers amazingly skilled or anything, like some other films may have done. Only a couple are skilled (this one guy called Kiriyama is a badass).
But it's not just an action film at all. It has elements of action, romance, horror (in terms of being horrified by the film, and disgusted by what happens to some of the characters) etc. It's not a poorly-done film by any means, because it portrays the characters realistically and you could see yourself reacting the same way in the situation.
Overall, I rate this film as one of the best I've ever seen. Check it out on YouTube. The film's parts will come up as "Battle Royale (Part 1)" then "Battle Royale (Part 2)" etc. all the way up to Part 12, if you want to watch. NOTE : THE TITLES WILL BE EXACTLY AS I HAVE LISTED, AND IF THEY ARE NOT, YOU'RE WATCHING A SEQUENCE OF PARTS WHICH THE USER DID NOT FULLY UPLOAD. (There's a few users who uploaded the first 40 or 50 minutes of film, but not the rest.)
Battle Royale 2 is also on YouTube, but I have yet to watch it.
Yeah, the Prince Of Tennis subs on YouTube are done by the free fansub site, "animeotakus.com", but they still do not translate some of the dialogue properly. I can tell by having gotten used to a few of the word sounds for certain words like "no" and stuff. Interestingly, the Japanese version of "no" sounds exactly like "Yeah".Fournine wrote:They also tend to screw up the translations... I trust fansub groups more than I do companies.
