i just got a new job, so now i can afford buying stuff.

i want a PC since i am tired of not being able to game on my mac laptop.

c'mon nerds help me build something decent, not overkill.

max budget 600$ american USD

i am aware of how to build a PC btw i'm not supernoob, it's just been about 7 years since i done so. i am guessing advancements have happened with brands and stuff so yeah i am just asking for some advice.

$600 is going to buy you a sub par gaming system, just so you know. You won't get anything that will play on high settings easily. I'll throw a build together and post back in a few.

EDIT: Intel or AMD? I like LGA sockets (the pins are a lot easier to not bend) so I tend to lean toward Intel, but this is a pretty budgeted build, so you might want to go AMD.

well back when i used PCs i was all about AMD, so lets just go with that.

a so-so build is totally okay with me since i am not going to be hxc gaming a lot since i have life obligations (full-time job, college, girlfriend). casual is more than okay with me.

potential to upgrade maybe a possibility as well?

If you have a good enough power supply and a case big enough, you'll probably be able to upgrade some things in this, such as the graphics card (which is actually a pretty good one). There are probably some things in there that are overkill, but I think the generic crap that I put in will balance it out. This build should give you plenty of room for upgrade.

Yay for random opinions!

Though I currently have a 460 myself, and though it's definitely a good card, I wouldn't suggest it. You can get a much more powerful card for less if you buy a radeon. I can barely max out skyrim with a 460, and for the same price I could get a mid range radeon card that would out-perform it easily. I bought the 460 because I really hate catalyst control center, radeon drivers usually aren't as good as nvidia drivers, and to be honest, they look cooler. (the evga ones just have that super sleek looking casing) Ultimately they both have their ups and downs, but for a budget build I usually suggest a radeon card.

I will however say go with a WD hard drive. Hitachis (and Seagates) are notorious for being poor quality drives, where WDs are usually pretty good. I've never had a problem with a WD drive, but the ONE time I get a Hitachi drive it's a lemon.

Both of these guys' options are pretty solid, and you can't really go wrong either way. Although the extra 4 Gigs of RAM could make a difference in BF3. I have an ancient motherboard that can only use DDR2, so I'm stuck with 4 Gb.

Also, Sandurz is right. My Nvidia card is sexy.

The extra four gigs won't really matter that much. I have 8GB of ram and have never used more than 3.5 (yes I'm running a 64 bit OS).

That might also depend on what background programs you're running as well. I'm just saying that when I play BF3, I run out of memory if I play on Ultra. It's not a major difference, but it is there.
