really?
because if you are talking about WoW or Everquest that statement completely ignores:
-Talent/Skill Tree Builds (which alter the play-style drastically)
-Trinkets and Consumable Items
-Skills and Cooldown Managment
-Movement and Kiting (for backstabbing and ranged characters)
-Trap Placement
-End Game Raid Boss team cooperation IN GENERAL
and so on
and so forth
jus' sayin'

So, in other words
MICROMANAGING YOUR EQUIPMENT AND SKILL SET?

well no shit isn't that what are you doing in action rpgs with less depth?
combos and special abilities sound like a skill set to me.
and on that note if both players know how to play doesn't it depend on who has better stats?

Haha, define "Know How to Play"
I hardly even consider some MMOs games. RS I have a soft spot for from nostalgia, but Wow and Everquest are ones that seem like prime examples of weird, money whoring psychology applications.
On an opiniative note, I also don't like WoW because the game is over-stylized for me. I can't really stand stylized stuff. It makes me want to gag, usually. That's probably why Runescape appeals to me more. I just don't really enjoy over exaggerated moves, weird orange and blue streaks behind swords and overly styled armors.
Also, Guild Wars 2, y u have such good charr design and then have slutty everyone elses?

Games are that, too. Las Vegas, anyone?
One of my pet peeves is people claiming that X isn't Y, when they actually mean X is a type of Y they don't like. Racing games aren't games. MMOs aren't games, fantasy books aren't "real" books, computer graphics can't be art, Mac laptops/desktops aren't computers, etc.

Point taken, but MMOs who's only reason for keeping you playing is a little bit of psychology showing that our brains react to X stimulus in Y way and they then stimulate us X a million times, exploiting our brains natural tendency to collect, only to get massive amounts of dough out of us.
That's not a game, that's a fuckin' factory. A dead, unhappy sack of crap. No one in the games is even friendly or social half the time, anyways. That's half the fuckin' thing out the window right there!
So, point taken, but I still don't call them games.

Also, to add to the list of fun RPGs:
Here's a working mac client for League of Legends!

I do suggest you also download the FPS fix - it works!

In my opinion, gameplay is much deeper and funner in a game with dynamic combat as opposed to a game where combat is like WoW's. You've got it reversed. In an action MMO like Dragon Nest, you still have to factor in just about everything you listed- skill trees, consumables (buff potions and healing potions alike), skill and CD management (So, SO much, because if you don't, you are utterly fucked), movement and kiting (because you're moving nonstop regardless of class type), and "cooperation," which ranges from "setting up" enemies (another somewhat vague term that you'd kind of have to play the game to understand), protecting characters with lower defense/health, synchronizing skills and debuffs (of which there are many), and so on and so forth- but the actual gameplay looks and feels much different than any WoW clone. At least, it is to me, and I've played both WoW (albeit the "up to level 20" trial thing) and a good deal of WoW clones in search of a good MMO.
and on that note if both players know how to play doesn't it depend on who has better stats?
I'm referring to the game mostly in the cooperative Player-vs-Enemy sense. If you mean the PvP, well, typically a PvP match is fought with "balancing" on where every class has a standard amount of HP, MP, attack, et al, and it comes to down to nothing but skill, especially if you have the same class as your opponent. Sometimes these matches can get pretty heated. By sometimes, I mean every time. "Heated" is a severe understatement if you're talking about Asian players, mind.
