Good swordplay in a game?
Good swordplay in a game?
Can you guys recommend any games with really complex, realistic and engaging swordplay?
I mean a game where you have a bit more control over the sword than Overgrowth.
I've seen Bushido Blade, and that looks great, but by the looks of it it's Playstation exclusive.
If not I'll make mah own!

Mount & Blade? I'm unsure of how HOW detailed you want it to be.

Yes, the Mount & Blade series would be a good one, upcoming there's also: Mount & Blade 2, War of the Roses and Chivalry Medieval Warfare.

I really liked "dark messiah" of might and magic, too bad there isn't a sequel, ( and the name is not so appealing either).
There is also jedi knight: jedi academy, if you prefer your sword to be a shiny face-melting pole. XD

War of the roses looks to be a good 'un.
I found a ROM of Bushido Blade 2 which works pretty well, and damn it's fun.

I completely agree. The games style felt so fresh when compared to the rest of the genre.Doggyhugger wrote:I really liked "dark messiah" of might and magic, too bad there isn't a sequel

Y U NO MENTION DIE BY THE SWORD?!
Has full analog control of the sword. The sword fights don't look ultra realistic, but they sure as shit are engaging. You can get it for 6 bucks on Amazon, or I'm sure you could tactically acquire it somewhere on the internet. Pretty old game, published by Interplay. It was actually developed by Treyarch before their CoD screaming 13-year-old faggotry train.
Determinance has the same kind of control, but I haven't heard tons of good stuff about it. I like the mechanics of DbtS better than what I've seen of Determinance.
Other than that, only Mount and Blade comes to mind.

I agree, though jedi academy is about the same as overgrowth.Doggyhugger wrote:I really liked "dark messiah" of might and magic, too bad there isn't a sequel, ( and the name is not so appealing either).

Similar to Mount and Blade is The Dark Mod, a mod for DOOM 3 which is an awesome remake of the thief games, with a whole bunch of maps. The only problem is the ai move realy slow, even on the hardest difficulty, so it's too easy.

Lol, I don't have doom three, I love the thief games though. It's not really very swordfight-ey though.adwuga wrote:Doggyhugger wrote:Similar to Mount and Blade is The Dark Mod, a mod for DOOM 3 which is an awesome remake of the thief games, with a whole bunch of maps. That looks like a great game. Low-Poly actually looks cool and nostalgic to me for some reason.Korban3 wrote:Y U NO MENTION DIE BY THE SWORD?!
I got an emulator and 'Bushido Blade' which seems to be almost like a Samurai emulator. In the same style as overgrowth you die often after only one hit with a weapon.
I already have Warband, by the way. Not really the sword of thing I was thinking of. You can only attack or block in 4 directions and it doesn't really feel like swordfighting to me to be honest.

Yes, them low poly, low res graphics always leave me nostalgic as well. I grew up on Playstation, so I'm not surprised about it.
I haven't heard of the samurai one. May have to check it out.
