It's very rare for people to succeed at something when their only goal is to get rich.

They tend to thrive when their main goal is to create a business out of something they love.

People like Mark Zuckerberg didn't get filthy rich because they wanted to make money.

Don't believe me? Think of all the money and time modders have spent developing mods for games, available for free.

Right now, I work as an process engineer at an electronic component company and all the products I make are for Hybrid and Electric vehicles. Every time I get a new request for a part I get really excited about it because to me it means I have another opportunity to chip in to create a vehicle that could change the world.

All these part requests I get, They aren't even close to the same design. That usually means I jump through a shit ton of hoops to make whatever they want and really have to stretch out into areas of manufacturing my company has never even considered before.

In 3-4 years time, I will be able to go to a car dealer's parking lot. Point at a component in the engine bay of a brand new car and say "I made that possible!"

No offense Ren, but you sound like a bitter old man. You need to reconsider your career path if that really is what you think of work.
Ahh, that was a nice little smattering of self-masturbation.

Don't make assumptions that you have the answers about what I should do with my life. I'll go where the money is. If that's something I enjoy doing I'll be fucking blessed. Not many people get to do what they'd actually be right for. I'll make my money, because that's what matters. And if money wasn't an issue for me to survive, I'd probably just peruse other people's creations at will without really feeling the need to do anything myself, aside from a bit of writing here and there to keep myself entertained.

In short, go fuck yourself. ;)

Pipe down, old man.
Insults don't strengthen your arguments. They weaken them. Heavily.

Back to the original intent of the thread, while searching for Devilsclub's fanfic, I found an earlier iteration of this very thread with some good posts in it: Threads of General Amusement

That is a good find.

"Go fuck yourself" isn't an insult, it's an indignant response. You can also go fuck yourself.

Then show a little initiative and include 'indignant responses' in my reply. I really don't see what you're trying to accomplish with this needlessly defiant and frankly immature behaviour.

I'm not sure why the regulars are even batting an eye to the way Andy is responding. Its like you've never seen a response from him like this before.

I'm not batting an eye, I'm actually kinda excited that I won an argument with ren in the eyes of onlookers. :P

Ren must be losing his touch to spout bull shit. (Or I have been getting better >_> <_<)

Ahh yes, a silly response claiming a discussion as a "win" on your part. What's sad at this stage is that even with my extended absence you see me as something to defeat. That warms my heart.

Indignant responses like "Pipe down, old man"? Sounds like the same kinda drivel as calling someone "kid" constantly to demean them. Your goody-two-shoes attitude is incredibly boring. The fact that you think "Go fuck yourself" in any way has an effect on anything I said previously is a little confusing. It reminds me of Patrick K. Tillman Senior's letter to Brigadier General Gary Jones who oversaw the investigation into Pat Tillman's death in Afghanistan. An incredibly concise and well-thought out letter which he ends with:

Patrick K. Tillman wrote:In sum: Fuck you ... and yours.

Sincerely,
Patrick K. Tillman.
An article which contains the letter can be found here.

Are his arguments which he goes through during the course of the letter in any way weakened by how he concludes the letter? No, on the contrary, the what-you-would-call-"insulting"-fuck-you is actually just a summation of his overall feelings which he has previously outlined.

In sum: Fuck you.

Ahh, something to hate again, at long last. I missed this.

I am well aware of his habits. It's just that I haven't given up on him yet.

Even if he does go off in ridiculously silly tangents like the above, he has a heart in there somewhere. I intend to make this known.

Yes, Ren, perhaps calling you 'old man' was a bit of an indignant response. Perhaps it was also a reference to your title 'Gramps'. I thought you'd appreciate that. Seems I was wrong.
I can't say much about my approach being boring. I suppose I must simply be an incredibly dull person to you, having fewer vices than most to be reprimanded on, if I dare say so.
Unless you're just trolling again, in which case consider yourself trolled; it was not an attack, but a minor slightly bait-shaped bit of poking fun.

Still, poking fun aside, I'm afraid I must note I support Assaultman's observation that you do indeed sound like a cynical, bitter old man. It was more fun when you were enjoying yourself without hating things, though I might be hard-pressed to remember an actual case of this happening.

I've spent my life hating things. I'm surprised you haven't noticed. I don't ever remember a time when I didn't have hate. It's a refreshing emotion. You could call me cynical, but I would call myself a realist. Humanity's fairly shit. Look out for number one and all that. Some people just hide it better, friend.

Nothing wrong with hating things, no argument there. Only hating things is unhealthy though, both for you and for those around you. I can't call you a realist. Realists can realise that real good people are a real thing, and not merely fairy tale characters. Yes, they're fairly rare. Yes, a ridiculous amount of other people are merely masquerading as good people, which helps to confuse things.
Yes, I personally am also susceptible to cynicism. I however choose not to succumb to it; there's always other perspectives to consider.
It makes life just that bit more interesting. Heck, I'd die of boredom and depression if I had no reason to believe chivalry isn't entirely dead.

Do you hide your bitterness behind the excuse of humanity's shiteness? I do hope not.
I see no reason why you can't give the goodie-two-shoes standpoint a try.

I'm having super-deja-vu here from all the other times I've seen someone on an internet forum say something effectively identical in an effectively identical situation.
