Um....

Well, It's not really a nightmare but It's a weird dream (which I will be making into a story). There was a town on a giant rocky island, no grass, partly because the island was floating on lava. Anyway, there were other islands close to that one, sort of like a big pool of lava with random rocks floating ontop. I was some kind of famous knight or something, because there were demons out on those other islands, and apparently I was a legend when it came to killing them. One kind of demon (that I had the most trouble with and couldn't stop by the end of the dream) were mirror demons. They are exact copies of people, like reflections, the only way to tell the difference between a mirror demon and a regular person was that mirror demons had no reflection. And if you killed one, it would come back again. I headed to this freaky hermits place really far away from the town, he gave me 2 choices, a magical ritual that would burn them up or a harder but simpler answer. He told me about the ritual, and showed me some victims, and I decided I didn't want to see that happen (he grabbed one of the victims heads and peeled the skin off like an orange), the harder but simpler answer was that they died in contact to lava. Which was useful considering the islands were floating on lava. I left and the hermit followed me, and tried to kill me, he was a mirror demon the whole time, then more demons came and overwhelmed me, another demon hunter, a girl, with a dart gun thingy on her wrist came along and saved me, then we ran back to town, but before we got there I woke up.

That was a really weird but awesome dream.

No, it's not. That's not all a halberd is. At all.

No, dagnabbit! An axe with a long handle is a war axe or something along those lines.

A halberd is like a... stylised axe, I guess you could say, attached to a spear.

Like this!

That's a weird type of halberd… What I know of halberds are that they're basically a spear, with an axe-blade attached to one side, and something else - sometimes a different shape of blade or another spear-head or something - attached to the other side.

Something like that anyway. Basically a lot like what Makrond described.

A halberd is a Pole arm, not an Axe.
than thing that guy has in the Pic is simply a fancy two bladed sword.
Come on, A halberd can reach up to ten feet long.

They were used to take out armored infantry and cavalry.

I never said it was an axe. It's a spear (Which is a pole-arm) with axe-blade attachments to the end, which can indeed be a long way from the other end of the pole.

Oh, and did it never occur to you that the whole thing might've been a lot longer than the one in the pic? The whole thing is over twice as long as the amount you can see in the picture, and generally stands a little higher than it's user if both are standing straight up, halberd beside it's user.

P.S: I deleted your accidental double-post.

A Spear is an easy to manufacture medieval tactical weapon (in other words it can be used in melee or easily thrown)

a Halberd on the other hand is a Pole arm. a nasty weapon that can give you a bit of distance from an enemy, while dealing a good deal of damage.
a spear cant cleave a man in two like a Pole arm!

Yes, but there's more than one type of pole arm, and spears were basically earlier and less advanced versions of pole arms. And a spear could cleave a man in two if it had a blade on it, and a good strong soldier to power it.

I know that there are more than one type of Pole arm.

but the Reason why a Pole arm was effective was it could cleave without too much effort. You just let gravity and force do the work.

The part I didn't mention is that you wouldn't need a strong soldier to power it if the "Spear" was longer.

A spear is made out of a pole and a spearhead, a halberd is made out of a pole, a spearhead, and one or two blades. They're both pole arms, more or less.

Not "more or less". They ARE. They're both pole-like weapons. That makes them both polearms. Now you're saying it too. v_V
