Yes, but sound and smells aren't things you feel either, only sight is. At least that's the way it is with me, I can't imagine anyone feeling anything like this except sight, and even that is blurred, greyscale, and empty around the edges.

Those are the kind of dreams I have.

Seeing things in my dreams is much different than seeing things in real life. It's like you don't actually see anything, the perspective is unclear, you don't even notice that you are looking at yourself and every person in your dream. You're just soaking up the environment (though it's usually very empty even though you never realize this in your dreams, because everything you're thinking about is there and everything that isn't, isn't important.).

I can never remember or call back dreams as black and white or gray on the edges. That is the way movies and television shows show dreams. My dreams don't make sense when I recall them, but at the time they make perfect sense, like this is really happening without a doubt and everything I'm doing is the most realistic thing that could possibly happen (except for that half second before you wake youself up by blinking your eyes open, I sometimes do that on purpose when the dream turns bad or something. Other times it's NOOO take me back to dream world!!).

That's not what I mean. I mean the whole dream is greyscale, and fades away slightly at the edges into black nothingness.

My dreams are perfectly clear... like it's happening in real life. So basically they are exactly like Zantalos', except it's in first person.... only if I die or it's for a good cause :D .

Yeah, and that's the way dreams are in movies. You seriously don't have colors in your dreams?

Really? I've never experienced this at all, it's like watching an old black and white film with oil spilled on it for me. I think what happens with me is that I never fully achieve the deepest level of sleep. :(

Well, one good thing is that I don't end up with an invisible knife in my back, I guess.

When I dream, it's a real-life experience. Everything is and feels real, and when I wake up while dreaming, I can't believe it was a dream. And that's how the majority of people feel about it.

It's a good thing I had a psychology class at the university which covered dreams and have a big interest and read numerous books about the subject, so...

BWS, what you say may be true from your point of view, but it's a (very) subjective reality. That doesn't falsify anything, you're not exactly wrong, but the point is, neither am I.

My point: Dreams aren't of the same nature for every person.

Anyway, it's uncommon that you have such an artificial experience when you dream. Just ask the people around you what their dreams are like.

If you want to inspect your own dreams, just do what Richard Feynman did: Wake yourself up with an alarm clock when you're in the dream phase. Immediately write your thoughts down or, even better, get a dictaphone and talk about it.

I just woke up 30 minutes ago from a dream (not a nightmare, haven't
had a real nightmare in 7 years or so).
I see it like this: dreams are more or less, but always very undetailed
and without color (it feels like it's not even b&w to me).
I can't recall any sound from any dream I've ever had,
but I can remember what people said.
I know some of the stuff people in my last dream said, but no idea
what voice they said it in.
There's never any smell/taste involved in my dreams.

I don't know when it happens, if it's on-the-fly or when I wake up, or
when I remember it, but at some point some of the vague shapes in my dreams becomes associated with real-life people and objects.
It's still very blurred, and not everything has color.
One thing I have noticed is that I get the most detailed and
on-real-life-topic dreams on the morning, when I wake up and then
fall back into sleep.

What about time in dreams? I've dreamt dreams that seemed like hours
long, over 15 minutes.

For me dreams are reasonably detailed but only within a limited field of vision, outside that things fade away into nothingness, and they're almost completely colourless. I never feel anything though, besides the bed. Yes, I'm that out of touch with my dreamscape that I feel the bed while dreaming. :P

BWS, that has some cool name, but I can't find it anymore. I thought it was lucid dreaming, but that's something else.

my dreams are never black and white, but have you ever had a dream when you know its a dream?

I've had that, but I don't think you know it's a dream, I think you
dream that you know it's a dream.
