Song Meanings

Post by Renegade_Turner » Wed Apr 11, 2007 9:54 pm

Song meanings are often frustrating. That's why there should be a thread for discussing the meanings of different songs.

People can offer a song and then someone else can try to interpret it. But please don't ignore someone else's song just because you have your own one you want everyone to think about. First at least try to interpret the song.

Anyway I'll start off with a well-known song.

System Of A Down - Chop Suey.

What the hell is this song really about?

I like SOAD.
But BYOB and Lonely Day (ugh!) and a few others SUCKS. WTF.
Chop Suey is overrated too.

Anyway, for me a song is about whatever I want it to be about.
I dunno what Daron was thinking.

The meaning of a song Changes with ones Perception and Memories and Feeling.

The Simple tune of the the Guitar can mean something to some one.

one of my Favorite songs that has a bit of past life meaning to me was Universal soldier (for those of you who dare to believe)

He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four, He fights with missiles and with spears. He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen, Been a soldier for a thousand years.
He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain, A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew. And he knows he shouldn't kill, And he knows he always will, Kill you for me my friend and me for you.
And he's fighting for Canada, He's fighting for France, He's fighting for the USA, And he's fighting for the Russians, And he's fighting for Japan, And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.
And he's fighting for Democracy, He's fighting for the Reds, He says it's for the peace of all. He's the one who must decide, Who's to live and who's to die, And he never sees the writing on the wall.
But without him, How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau? Without him Caesar would have stood alone, He's the one who gives his body As a weapon of the war, And without him all this killing can't go on.
He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame, His orders come from far away no more, They come from him and you and me, And brothers can't you see, This is not the way we put the end to war.

That song makes my eyes water every time I hear it.

Yeah but I was asking for your specific interpretation of the song, Crill3.

What do you thin Chop Suey was about?

http://www.systemofadownonline.com/lyrics/0206.htm But... I have no explanation :P ... What make even LESS sense is Lee from Tenacious D's first album. That's the most random song I've ever heard, but the music's tight :D .

Well, I dunno, I think it's like...someone he loved died, so then he blames himself or something, but he blames god too because he sees it as him being forsaken, so he is telling god to trust him, that suicide is the best option for him because it will end the pain. He's saying that you can trust in the suicide because it's for a reason. He thinks he has a right to commit suicide because the person he loved died and he thinks he has nothing much left to live for. Not sure about the keys though...like keys to a car that he can crash and die in?

That's quite a half-assed analysis, but no one else bothered.

Now, does anyone else have a song they want to hear someone else's interpretation of?

Lee is a song about the lead roadie/groupie/fan of the band. He's a character they invented. He was in an episode of the Tenacious D TV series thingy where JB threw his pick away at a show and then Lee gave him his pick instead. Then Jack and Kyle both break into Lee's house and play the song to him. It's basically a tribute song to Lee, because Lee was an awesome fan. There's nothing more to it than Jack Black talking about how much he loves Lee and values him as a fan and friend.
