randomness
Re: randomness
... It's nothing when compared to the Dead Space games.
Re: randomness
Mm, I dunno. Dead Space was gory and all, but wen never teleported inside someone's body and vibrated so hard (lulz) that they exploded. We just shot shit.
So, I dunno.
So, I dunno.
Re: randomness
I just find the whole atmosphere in Dead Space on a whole different level than in this game. Dead Space wants you to shit your pants, that is if by then you still have an ass left with which to shit.

Re: randomness
Oh my god.
Me:
"Oh look, it's a little cute alien thing, I wonder what's going to happen!"
"Oh neat! It can teleport! Silly scientist, being afraid of cute little alien"
"Ok, looks like it's making it's way pretty well through that facility there."
"Oh, looks like it's found the silly scientists. Now they'll know it just wants to be friends!"
"...wat?"
"WHAT THE SHIT. WHAT THE HEAVENLY SHIT. I DONT EVEN. RUN! RUN YOU FOOL! IT WILL KILL YOU ALL!"
Cool idea for a game though.
Also, Dead space is by far the scariest game I've seen. Necromorphs are just damn freaky by nature.

Re: randomness
Dead Space is frightening- it uses lots of jump scares and sudden events. It's never THAT scary because, y'know, you have automatic weapons. Not to say that it's not scary, because it definitely got my heart pounding in a few places. I prefer games with more psychological horror elements, like Amnesia or Silent Hill 2.

Re: randomness
There's a kid at my school who's really into Amnesia. I don't know, I just could never get into it. I never found it that scary. Comical, if anything.
Re: randomness
I really can't force myself to play psychologically scary games, it's not in my nature to be something to enjoy. Hell, I have problems playing Minecraft in full screen.

Re: randomness
I have actually not played any of these games myself, for lack of console/tv/pc/funds. Most of my knowledge comes from playthroughs on Youtube and looking over the shoulder of peeps. That may hav diluted my Amnesia experience. Minecraft can be a very scary game. I found a tunnel that was all lit up and explored with torches and everything, and I dug into it while tunneling. I did not recognize it at all. I was so goddam spooked. Later, I found the tunnel that led to it, and my fears of Herobrine were alleviated.
Re: randomness
I've played through the first F.E.A.R. games, that is, the first one and the two expansions for it. I couldn't bring myself to play through the second one, out of fright.Jacktheawesome wrote:I have actually not played any of these games myself, for lack of console/tv/pc/funds. About Amnesia... I believe I played about 20 minutes or so before I rapidly quit...
I'm somewhat of a sissy when it comes to this.

Are you sure that wasn't just an Abandoned Mine Shaft?Jacktheawesome wrote:I found a tunnel that was all lit up and explored with torches and everything, and I dug into it while tunneling. I did not recognize it at all.
Re: randomness
Urg. Minecraft. That game can freak me out. I doubt I could handle more than an hour of Amnesia at a time.
But yeah, DeadSpace having weapons killed what was there for really scary scenes. There's a few scenes that are still scary and freaky, even with the guns. Like when you get dragged down hallways by tentacles. When you're hangin' from the end of the train upside down. Mostly those scenes where the player is in a crazy, odd spot and has to actually work to get the fuck out of it. Read "Quick Time Events kill immersion, run and gun isn't scary, don't use them. Ever."
I was watching a Let's Play of I Am Alive and was loving all of it. Every aspect. And then they did it. They went and used a QTE. Fuck. I mean with all of that awesome NPC interaction and depth, from what I saw, they couldn't do something more interesting and engaging than button mashing? That's about the point where I say "Screw this game, I'm gonna go make my own. And do it better, too."
Anyways, what were we talkin' about?
Oh yeah.
That little guy. He's all cute. And you're all like, wow he's cute. And then he starts blowing people up. While the atmosphere isn't scary that contrast is just plain sick. I mean, Dead Space flys by it on terror because the atmosphere, sound and lighting all contribute to it. Hell, half the scariest parts of that game involve no enemies and no action. It's just the player, the environment and the imagination: Psyching ya out, ya know what I'm talkin' about maaan?

No, this was before those existed. I did really find the other entrance to it though. I just wasn't as far from home as I thought I was.Freshbite wrote:I've played through the first F.E.A.R. games, that is, the first one and the two expansions for it. This spring break I helped kill a mean lioneaglescorpiondragonbull thingy. I think they're called Manticores for short though.

Oh, is Dragon Nest still playable? I haven't logged in for about... 3 months or so.Ragdollmaster wrote:This spring break I helped kill a mean lioneaglescorpiondragonbull thingy. I think they're called Manticores for short though.

Well, we're probably playing different versions since I'm in the North American servers, but it's fine at the moment. The level cap hasn't changed for 3 months, which makes me sad, but there's frequent events and PvP is always fun. I think there's supposed to be a pretty hefty content update sometime this early spring that will include the addition of a new class.

Haven't played that game since the beta.
