I don't know him, and my usual policy is to like at first, then see how they appear to be. So it's a yes from me. From what I have seen he's a bit of a nublet but hopefully he's learned his lesson. If not, get the chainsaw ninjas.

Sucky, sucky, Five-doll---nevermind, I'll shutup now...
Hmmm...

v-nix:

Okay, so I lied about shutting up...

I refuse to vote in this poll until I know more about the candidates running in this debacal...debackle? Debacle? Something...

This thread has been marked as acceptable by 100 lawyers, 200 screaming women, 300 angry animal-activists, 400 male chauvinists, 500 psychotic asians (because apparently we're all psychotic...), and one drunk llama. Everything but the llama is optional.

Well that's a bit extreme David. What he said wasn't that bad...

This the idea of a friendly forum? Threatening to ban people if they use the number "4" instead of "for"?

I could understand him perfectly, and personally think you guys overreact over the slightest misspellings.

Get over yourselves.

If you understand him perfectly, what's "paziek" mean? That's the only part of his post I couldn't understand. I do tend to get annoyed by "txt tlk" though, cause it just makes the poster look like a moron who's too lazy to type all of his letters. David's mockery was well justified in that case. If you think he was harsh, check the treatment MONKEYZ RULE! (formerly known as crawl up your butt and die) gave him. Altering someone's quote to make a mockery is going a bit too far, but just mocking someone's speech is acceptable. After all, v-nix did actually improve his spelling afterwards :D

Another thing. You think David's treatment is harsh? Check Facepunch Studios. They are pretty much the definition of "Grammar Nazi" (a person or group who is very strict about spelling online, this has absolutely nothing to do with Hitler or his army, since Grammar Nazis don't discriminate by religion, they discriminate by spelling skill :P more info at the wiki article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammar_Nazi :D.). I will admit I tend to exhibit GN tendencies at times, mainly because most forums don't have Facepunch's awesome smartness system to punish leets and morons alike (although if there's a difference between the two I haven't seen it yet :p)

These two rules were created to prevent this kind of thing, and frequent violation of forum rules will result in banning:
5. Please keep the conversation above 2nd grade level; basic spelling and grammar are appreciated.

7. Please no 1337 speak unless used in an appropriate or humorus fashion
If posters actually have trouble with spelling and grammar then I have no problem with the occasional mistake, as long as they make an effort. However, in this case I am sure that v-nix knows how to spell and just does not want to. It wastes an extra couple keystrokes to write "for" instead of "4". Spending the extra second or so to make a legible post will save many seconds of reading comprehension time, and thus makes the forums a more efficient medium for discussion. I don't honestly care if I waste a couple seconds of my time trying to decipher a cryptic post, but I don't like the attitude behind it: that my reading time is less valuable than his writing time.

Still does not excuse arrogance. Tell him that if he keeps breaching the rules then he'll be banned, but don't mock him.

Christ, you guys have given me warnings for less.

It is a bit ironic to make accusations of arrogance when most of your sentences are in imperative form. I don't really have time to argue about this... back to work :)

Misspelling something because you are young, have a learning disability, made a mistake, etc. is fine. Just spell check (cmd-; on macs) if you have trouble and make an effort. However, intentionally misspelling things 4 whatever reason iz annoying n definitely grounds 4 a ban (after repeat warnings). It doesn't matter if it is perfectly understandable. I cuold lirteally tpye evrey wrod lkie tihs and you cuold sltil raed it fnie, but it is annoying as hell.

We have extremely, extremely relaxed rules on the forum but this one is essential to keep the forums readable and I am very surprised that people (well, mostly just gramps) are protesting the fact that we enforce legible writing.

I've almost never found forums which enforce legibility. (At least, until they make me a mod and I do it myself.) Thanks, guys. ^_^

You'd make Maxis proud!

And about "txt-talk": I hate txt-talk. I hate txt-talk!!

It may not mean you're young, can't spell, are mentally (Or physically) disabled, but it makes you sound like you are. All too often a 16-20 or so year old guy uses txt-talk in some chatroom, FPS, or other chat including… Thing :P. These people (At least to legible people) tend to almost halve their apparent age by using txt-talk. When you read it to yourself, it always tends to be spoken by some 10-13 year old kid. If you really like txt-talk and sounding like a 10-13 year old kid, chances are you're perverted beyond belief. :P
