Holy shit, Vitamin String Quartet
Holy shit, Vitamin String Quartet
They make mainstream/pop/bullshit songs like Justin Beiber and the Jonas Brothers sound beautiful.

Yeah, Vitamin String Quartet is cool. Also yay, I recognize a band for once! Let's make this a forum game - post something covered by Vitamin String Quartet, and I'll tell you I don't recognize it.
I'm only half kidding too - I might recognize some movie tracks and such, but for example, I don't know if I've ever heard a Justin Bieber song.

This thread makes it sound as if Sigur Rós and Lorde were mainstream pop bullshit.

They aren't? It did sound like they were popular or something, so I thought they were.EPR89 wrote:This thread makes it sound as if Sigur Rós and Lorde were mainstream pop bullshit.

They may be considered pop, depending on your definition of pop.
They are definitely not mainstream pop music.
And they are definitely not bullshit.
Re: Holy shit, Vitamin String Quartet
I hated Royal. The vocalist just did not do it for me. Usually, with the newer stuff these days I hate the vocal work. Love the melodies, love the beat, all the instrumental work, but can't stand the singer.
Except for Gary Numan. Hnnnnng
But this stuff is awesome.
EDIT: I am seriously so excited. I can finally enjoy all of the shitty pop music I've had to put up with all those years in school.

Either way,
holy fuck the singer of Lorde's voice, how did they do that.
Also, Lorde isn't mainstream bullshit, but I think of the word 'mainstream' as 'popular', sooo.

Lorde's definitely pop music. She's one of the more inventive pop musicians, but she definitely writes pop music.
Some other pop musicians: Michael Jackson, Elton John, The Beatles, Elvis, Madonna. There are no bad genres, only bad musicians!
Grr, vitamin string quartet. From a violinist's perspective, I just wish their arrangers would make actual string quartet arrangements, because it's so much more interesting to me to hear an arranger try to fit a pop song into the real string quartet instrumentation (2 violins, viola, cello), instead of having license to use as many strings as they want. Still, they come up with some cool stuff. Speaking of people taking mediocre music and turning it into really awesome music, here's a little band called Dirty Loops. These guys are some of the sharpest musicians and arrangers I've seen.
