"Those style" meaning the style of RPG which involves no skill whatsoever? Power-levelling is not skill. Chrono Trigger can be completed extremely early _if_ you use proper tactics and the proper equipment. That's skill in character building, not power-levelling. Super Mario RPG can be easily completed with skill in character building, not power-levelling. Sinjid: Shadow of the Warrior, a Flash RPG, is a perfect example of an RPG which requires skill rather than levelling; you _can't_ power-level in that one. Etc, etc, etc. Games are not fun if they don't require skill.
Untrue. My friend Ian got to where I am at level 37 while still at level 20, where I was still finding it difficult. He used skill and tactics, aimed for fighting mainly the bosses and skipping most of the unnecessary fights.
He used tactics to win in fights, and tactics is a big part of Final Fantasy RPG's.
Also, the character building is also a part of Final Fantasy XII, based on the system where you use the points you've gained from fighting to acquire certain skills and character abilities. It's the same thing.
Oh, and I was not a big Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask fan either. I thought they were all pretty boring. I didn't have much fun playing them.
The Gameboy Zelda games like Link's Awakening pleased me much much more. I played that game several times over.

@Chaz hehe, I remember that gargoyle...damn thing smacked me so many times first time I played, lol
@Makrond: enh, story mode was alright...multiplayer I found a little on the boring side...
@Renegade: I liked Ocarina of Time, personally...just Majora's Mask pissed me off

Majoras mask is more fun if you have gameshark and start off with all the masks, items, equipment and quest items.

Red Steel on the Wii. I played it and for some reason got hooked. Which is odd because I don't usually enjoy FPSs.
It was funny, though, because I played it on a friend's Wii... he'd been playing it for ages, and he got shocked by how many headshots I got. As the levels got harder, though, my headshot count went down, because I was constantly just shooting basically at random.
But seriously, if you ever get a chance, play it. Even if you don't think you'll like it. PLAY IT!
Red Steel is TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE. If it is a game that every gamer must play, it should be as an example of how NOT to design a control system for Wii. It has the worst control system ever. It takes like ten hours to turn. If you want a good console FPS, play Goldeneye 64 or Halo, or Metroid Prime 3 when it comes out. Stay far far away from Red Steel.

also, is L&R basically a more graphically appealing version of BFD or is there some big difference in gameplay...and I never played very far into BFD...does it have the WWII level?
also, gray, you forgot pinball

Its exactly like BFD, just really great graphics (even for the original Xbox) and better multiplayer.

Wormguy, Red Steel had an amazingly intuitive control system. The learning curve was about ten seconds. The only issue with it was a complete lack of any challenge; you heal way too quickly and your opponents have sucky aim. (Besides, your suggestion that a real FPSer should play Halo invalidates your post anyway.)
Ocarina of Time was good for its time. Majora's Mask sucked horribly simply due to the atmosphere of the game; aside from that it actually had some potential, although it was combatively far too easy even for a Zelda game.
Ren, if that's all true, then why did you declare that someone who hadn't levelled sufficiently earlier on would suck later in the game?

lets see
Halo and halo 2 - if you havent played one of these how do you live your life and what the hell do you do at parties?
Any zelda game - if you played one and didn't like it give me 10 reasons why
any metroid game - same reason
centipede - who the f#*% hasn't played centipede!!!
counter strike - i only have the crappy xbox version and i still play for hours without xbox live
fire emblem - its mostly just a puzzle strategy game but is still one of my 3 favorite games ever ever seriously go find one (the one for gameboy advance) and play. now.
ghost recon (the first one) - simply kicks ass
star wars kinghts of the old republic - one of the two best rpgs ever
morrowind - the other one
super mario 64 - best mario game ever probobly
alundra 2 - a pretty solid game, first one may have been good too but never found it. its ancient and hard to find though, plus its for the ps1 so it could be hard to find, plus i had to add a playstaion game somewhere.
zelda ocarina of time - i seperated this from the other zelda games cause im commanding you to play it

I don't understand how people can come out and say that Halo is a bad game. Halo single-handedly kept the Xbox from going under completely. Seriously, were there any other good games for Xbox for at least a year?
Sure, I know you're going to say "OMG go play t3h Marathon" but Marathon's existence does not mean Halo is not worth playing.
I never said that a "true FPSer" would play those games. Stop putting words in my mouth. I'm not an FPS elitist. I merely stated that some examples of console First Person Shooters done right were Goldeneye and Halo. You simply can't dispute that.
Now, on to my reasons why I hated Red Steel with a passion.
First, there is no blood. Normally this wouldn't be a problem but the game is called frickin' Red Steel, and you use a katana and shoot things. This is mildly annoying, and would not amount to much if certain other things about the game were good.
Second, the voice acting is pretty annoying. The Japanese accents are horribly overdone so much as to be comical.
Third, the level design is a mixed bag. Some of the levels are great - most others are boring or poorly designed.
Fourth, the process of aiming is pretty awesome. However, the controls are ultimately muddled by the fact that it takes practically ten minutes just to turn 180 degrees. I'm talking like I could aim my controller to the side, go eat a snack, come back and finally be turned around. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I took major damage because it took so long to turn. It's just completely frustrating.
Fifth, the sword controls can be annoying. True, the swordfighting has its moments. But I remember one time in the dojo where I literally spent 10 minutes trying to get a combo to work. I would have greatly enjoyed one-to-one control and the ability to draw my sword whenever I wanted, but oh well.
True, the graphics are outstanding. True, the music is great. But ultimately the experience is completely destroyed by the controls. It's unfortunate, because the game is mostly well done. But, if nothing else, a Wii game is made by its controls, and Red Steel's controls sucked.
Also, did you seriously just knock Majora's Mask for its horrible atmosphere and easy difficulty? Have you even played Majora's Mask? It's the only Zelda game I haven't beaten, because it's too damn frustrating for me. It's widely regarded as the hardest Zelda game ever. The atmosphere in Majora's Mask was what made the freakin' game! Seeing the moon get closer and closer to the earth as time went on was awesome, and the sense of looming doom that pervaded the game was what gave it its unique stamp among Zelda games.

Because its their opinion?
Halo single-handedly kept the Xbox from going under completely.
Which by no means immediately says that everyone is going to love Halo and wash its feet and offer it sex.
Seriously, were there any other good games for Xbox for at least a year?
Sure, I know you're going to say "OMG go play t3h Marathon" but Marathon's existence does not mean Halo is not worth playing.
Erm no actually...I'm no Marathon fan-boy. I think Halo and Halo 2 are decent, well-built FPS games, but they aren't God's gift to the FPS genre either.
I dislike Halo...Its well...kinda boring...after about level 9.
I liked Halo 2 better because of the multiplayer aspect, but it still wasn't the "greatest and the baddest" FPS out there.
For consoles, yes, it was a great game. But at the time I didn't have a console, so...and yes, there were some great games for Xbox at the time, different genres but still good.

I never once said that Halo was God's gift to mankind. I'm saying that it's an example of a well-done console FPS. I personally thought it was a fun game, although I prefer the Half-Life series for its atmosphere.

Halo = good
Halo 2 = great
Halo 3 = overhyped and will suffer some sort of sequelitis
Battlefield = lord of the FPS's (seriously, look at how many of them there are...I thought they got old after a while, though...they were all the same...)
Half-Life 2 = god of the FPS's (not a fanboy...just stating the truth, hehe...I personally didn't like the story but, online is amazing)
Metroid - played about 3 or 4 of them...amazingly fun games...though aiming in Prime 2 was frustrating and much different than Prime...successful combination of adventure and FPS
Zelda - i damn anyone who doesn't like any of them to hell...Majora's Mask sucked horribly though...the time-twisting was weird and difficult...combat may have been easy but adventuring sure as hell wasn't
Conker - BFD = good/L&R = had a shot at being good but it bleeped out the swear words
another thing to play is Heroes of Might and Magic...and just normal old Might and Magic
and Suikoden
and Romance of the Three Kingdoms
and Ice Climbers
One thing I never liked about HL2 is that in Deathmatch, all the custom-made levels got twisted, weird and impossible to fight on....so, it's fun when you find a solid, well thought out level...story was weird, too

A thing I've always liked about Final Fantasy is that even people who suck at it can still play it fine just by levelling up enough. More advanced players can just play through the game without needing to stop to level up anywhere and just fight through what they need to.

meaning, yes FFXII sucks and is time consuming...
